NCAA declares Miami catcher Peter O’Brien Eligible for 2012 Season

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior catcher Peter O’Brien has been approved by the NCAA to compete for the Hurricanes during the upcoming 2012 baseball season.

Jon Surber leaves Clemson for John Logan College

CBD sources state that Clemson sophomore RHP Jon Surber out of Lisle, Illinois has left the baseball program and will transfer to John A. Logan College, a JuCo school in Carterville, Illinois. Tyler Shreve leaves Utah Football program to purse Baseball Career

Utah quarterback and RHP Tyler Shreve has left the Utah football program to transfer to Riverside (CA) Community College where he will play both football and baseball. Shreve was a highly regarded baseball recruit out of high school but only pitched 0.2 innings as a freshman in 2011. He was drafted in the tenth round by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2010. It should be interesting to see if Shreve ends up transferring to a Division 1 baseball program after the 2012 season.  Read the rest of this entry »

Jake Watson leaves South Carolina Program

South Carolina backup sophomore infielder Jake Watson has decided to transfer to Louisburg Junior College to continue his baseball career. He  joins infielder Mikal Hill (Miami-Dade JC) and outfielder Reid Moman to leave the program at the end of the semester. Watson appeared in 10 games during 2011 going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. He walked once, struck out once, stole a base, and without making an error in the field. Dillon Hazlett transfers to Emporia State

UPDATED AT JAN. 25th at 12:00PM
UNC infielder Dillon Hazlett has transferred to Emporia (KS) State as he is now listed on the roster of the Hornets for the upcoming season. Hazlett started the 2010 season as the starting first baseman but ended up losing his starting job around the midseason. In sixty games last season, he had a .324 batting average (third best on the team) while hitting four homers and driving in 54 runs. (second highest total on team). Read the rest of this entry »

Eric Jaffe ruled Eligible at UCLA

We reported back in November that Cal freshman Eric Jaffe was looking into transferring to UCLA if he could get a waiver to be eligible for the 2011 season. According to Baseball America’s Aaron Fitt, he has been able to secure that waiver and will join the Bruins this spring. Jaffe decided to look into transferring to the Bruins at semester break after Cal announced it was dropping baseball at the end of the 2011 season.

Wes Cook leaves South Carolina

South Carolina LHP Wes Cook will not be a member of the baseball team in 2011 after failing to meet academic standards to be eligible for the spring semester. He was a incoming transfer from Central Alabama Junior College where he went 8-3 with a 3.49 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 111 innings last season while as a freshman went 10-0 while averaging 7.6 strikeouts per nine innings. Cal Baseball: Should you Stay or Go?

The last two weeks we have started to see news start to leak out about a couple of Cal Baseball players starting to make their transfer plans for the spring semester. The biggest news was that Eric Jaffe is expected to become a member of the UCLA baseball team at the end of the semester break after being a 19th round selection by the Oakland A’s in the 2010 MLB Draft. Cal’s Eric Jaffe to UCLA?

UPDATED AT 2:30 AM ON NOVEMBER 24th

Update #1: I have been able to confirm with an independent source that Eric Jaffe will be transferring to UCLA pending a waiver from the NCAA to be eligible this season.

According to a tweet from Keith Law of ESPN.com, Cal freshman RHP/1B Eric Jaffe is likely transferring to UCLA at the end of the semester. The Oakland (CA) native was selected in the 19th round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox out of Bishop O’Dowd High School. This move by UCLA adds a potent bat and an impact pitcher for the next three seasons. He will need a waiver from the NCAA to be eligible this season which is not out of the question.  Read the rest of this entry »

Cade Kreuter eligible in 2011 Season and Other Miami (FL) Notes

ArodFieldThe Miami Hurricanes started practice on Thursday after having a disappointing 2010 season which saw them implode against Florida making seven errors including three in the final two innings to miss out on a spot in the College World Series. They will need to replace their entire rotation from 2010 and probably the best hitting catcher in the country in Yasmani Grandal. They also lost starting second baseman Frankie Ratcliff who was suspended from school after being a drug incident back on September 9th when he was found with 101 grams of Marijuana and and 19 vials of HGH. Former SMC pitcher Dylan Chavez looking for a New Team

DylanChavezSt.Mary'sFormer St. Mary’s College LHP Dylan Chavez is currently visiting schools as he nears a decision where he will continue his collegiate career. Chavez spent his freshman season in 2010 with St. Mary’s College in California where he appeared in 18 games (2 starts) while going 1-1 with a 6.15 ERA in 26.1 innings pitched. He has transferred to American River College for this coming spring but is currently looking at Ole Miss, Miami (FL), Oregon, Oregon State, and Arizona State for the 2012 season.
