18U National Team strikes early in Win at International Super Series

OKOTOKS, Alberta – Nolan Fontana (INF; Winter Garden, Fla.) scored twice and collected three hits, including a two-out double to trigger a decisive three-run fifth inning, as the USA Baseball 18U National Team clipped the Okotoks Dawgs 5-2 tonight in exhibition action in the second day of the International Super Series at Seaman Stadium. PHOENIX, Ariz. – A seven-run second inning helped the USA Baseball 18U National Team overcome an early four-run deficit and the squad rolled to an 11-8 seven-inning victory July 19 against a group of local junior college all-stars in an exhibition contest played at Municipal Stadium, spring training home of the Oakland Athletics. USA Baseball announces U-18 team

Phoenix, Ariz. – USA Baseball announced the final 18-man roster for the 18U National Team Wednesday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. The team consists of seven pitchers, seven infielders, three outfielders, and a utility player. The team will travel to Edmonton, Canada, to participate in the IBAF World Junior Championships July 25-Aug 3. Continue reading

Red Team takes rubber game of U-18 USA Trials

Phoenix, Ariz. – The Red team jumped on Blue team starter Mike Trout early on the final day of the 18U National Team Trials at Phoenix Municipal Stadium Wednesday and held on to win Game 5 of the series 8-2 in six innings.

With runners on the corners early in the first inning, a double steal by Ryan Curl and Wes Hatton put the Red team up 1-0 early as Curl reached home. With the Red team still threatening with a runner in scoring position with one out after a Jiovanni Mier groundout, Bobby Borchering punched an RBI double to left centerfield scoring Hatton and putting the Red team up 2-0. Red Team ties up U-18 Team USA Trials

USA Baseball LogoPhoenix, Ariz. – For the first time during the trials the bats were silenced by the pitching and defense for both teams as the Red team came from behind to win 2-1 and even the series at the 18U National Team Trials at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

The Blue team scored first in the top of the second inning on starter Trevor Bauer. Bauer began the second with a strikeout but a passed ball by catcher Marlon Mitchell on strike three allowed Colton Cain to reach first. This misplay then led to an Austin Maddox RBI triple to right centerfield to give the blue team a 1-0 lead. Continue reading

Blue Team grabs 2 games to 1 lead in U-18 Trials

PHOENIX, ARIZ.— In a game that saw a combined 24 runs on 29 hits at the USA Baseball 18U National Team trials, the Blue Team answered every call the red team put forth to draw first blood, winning game one of the trials 13-11 at Phoenix Municipal Stadium,.

The Red team jumped on veteran ace Ryan Weber (St. Petersburg, Fla.) early as they scored four runs in the top of the first inning. Wes Hatton (Norco, Calif.) got the Red team started with a lead-off single through the right side but was out at second as Jiovanni Mier (Pomona, Calif.) grounded into a fielder’s choice. CARY, North Carolina – Dixie raced to an early 3-0 advantage then held off NABF the rest of the way for a 3-2 victory June 22 to capture the gold medal of the 16th Annual USA Baseball Tournament of Stars presented by Major League Baseball.
