ULM relieves Jeff Schexnaider of Coaching Duties

MONROE, La. — After seven-plus seasons at the helm of the ULM baseball program, Warhawk baseball coach Jeff Schexnaider has been relieved of his duties effective today announced ULM Director of Athletics Brian Wickstrom. Warhawk assistant coach Bruce Peddie will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the 2014 season. Continue reading

NCBWA Releases 2014 Preseason Division I Poll – Cal State Fullerton No. 1

ncbwa_frontDALLAS – Cal State Fullerton has been selected No. 1 nationally in the 17th annual 2014 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Division I preseason poll. It’s the second NCBWA preseason No. 1 ranking for the Titans, along with the 2005 season.  Cal State Fullerton is among 12 different schools to hold down the initial post since the NCBWA Division I polls began in 1998.

Head Coach Rick Vanderhook guided the Titans to a final mark of 51-10 and the ’13 Big West Conference championship (the school’s 27th in all conferences since 1975). Fullerton was ranked as high as second in last season’s NCBWA surveys and closed the year in 10th place nationally. Cal State Fullerton is paced by a pair of preseason All-American starting pitchers in Thomas Eshelman, a sophomore who was 12-3 with a 1.48 ERA, 17 starts, 115 2/3 innings pitched, and 83 strikeouts as a freshman; and sophomore Justin Garza who was 12-0 with a 2.03 ERA, 17 starts, 115 innings of work, and 95 strikeouts as a consensus Freshman All-America hurler (along with Eshelman) in 2013.

Troy releases 2014 Schedule

TroyBaseballThe Troy baseball team will play 31 games at Riddle-Pace Field, including 12 of the first 15 games of the season, as head coach Bobby Pierce announced the schedule for the 2014 season on Tuesday.

Highlighted on the Trojans home slate are visits from Samford, Jacksonville State, ULM, Louisiana-Lafayette, Western Kentucky, UAB and South Alabama. Troy will play 39 of its 56 games inside the state of Alabama and will play 10 games against NCAA Regional teams from a year ago. Continue reading

Arkansas State releases 2014 Schedule

ArkansasStateScheduleJONESBORO, Ark. — The Arkansas State Red Wolves’ baseball team will host 31 games at Tomlinson Stadium/Kell Field and play 10 games against teams that reached last season’s NCAA Championship as part of its 2014 schedule head coach Tommy Raffo announced Wednesday.

Sun Belt Conference matchups against Arkansas-Little Rock, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana-Lafayette, Troy and league newcomer Texas State highlight the home slate, which kicks off with a three-game set against Miami (Ohio) Feb. 14-16. Continue reading

Arkansas Little-Rock releases 2014 Schedule

UALRTurfFieldLITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Head coach Scott Norwood has announced the UALR baseball schedule for the upcoming 2014 season. The Trojans will play a 56-game regular-season slate featuring 16 matchups against seven schools that qualified for the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Top 100 Countdown: 78. Blake Trahan (Louisiana)

headshot_2_Trahan, Blake 2012College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2014 College Baseball season by checking in on the top 100 players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today at number 78 with Louisiana-Lafayette shortstop Blake Trahan. In his freshman campaign with the Ragin’ Cajuns, Trahan was the only freshman in the Cajuns lineup during the 2013 season and quickly showed signs of a top performer. In 213 at bats the shortstop compiled 68 hits, 38 RBI and hit to a .319 avg. The Kinder, La., native started 62 of the Cajuns’ 63 games at shortstop and hit safely in 48 of 62 games. After being named to the 2013 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team, Trahan was then also named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year. He is the first Cajun to be recognized as a Freshman All-American since Jonathan Lucroy in 2005. Continue reading

ULM Baseball Releases 56-Game Slate for 2014

MONROE, La. — ULM head baseball coach Jeff Schexnaider announced today the 2014 baseball schedule that features a total of 56 games including home contests against Michigan State, Southeastern Louisiana and Southern Miss, all of which won 30 or more games a season ago.

In all, ULM will face six different teams that advanced to the NCAA Regionals in 2013 (Baton Rouge, La. Regional – Jackson State and UL-Lafayette; Raleigh, N.C. Regional – Ole Miss; Starkville, Miss. Regional – South Alabama; Tallahassee, Fla. Regional – Alabama and Troy). The Warhawks will face a total of 12 teams that won 30 or more games last season. Continue reading

Western Kentucky releases 2014 Schedule

WKUBOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU head baseball coach Matt Myers announced the 2014 Hilltopper Baseball schedule on Monday morning, a slate that features eight 2013 NCAA Regional participants, two first-time opponents, a home series with Big 10 foe Illinois and 28 games at Nick Denes Field.

The schedule is highlighted by 18 games against eight 2013 NCAA Regional teams that combined to win 364 games and 72 percent of their contests. WKU’s 2014 slate includes home and away games versus 2013 College World Series qualifier Louisville, a mid-week trip to another College World Series participant, Indiana, on April 16 and a Feb. 25 meeting at Vanderbilt, a 2013 Super Regional contestant.
