Late Rally Falls Short In Pump Jacks 4-3 Loss To Coppell

Hard-fought, close games can be the most gratifying to win.

They can also be among the toughest to lose.

The East Texas Pump Jacks can attest to the latter following Tuesday night’s 4-3 loss to the defending champion Coppell Copperheads at Driller Park. The Copperheads built a 4-0 lead before Josh Riley’s three-run double in the eighth inning closed the gap. But ultimately the Jacks ran out of time before they were able to get the tying run across.

Coppell built an early 2-0 lead with runs in each of the second and third innings off of East Texas starting pitcher Clint Helms. Helms (1-2) gave up an RBI single in the second and allowed a run on a wild pitch in the third, but otherwise pitched six innings unscathed. He allowed the two earned runs on four hits and four walks, striking out four.

Brazos Valley Bombers outduel Coppell Copperheads 2-1

A day after absorbing their biggest loss of the season, the Bombers bounced back in style with a 2-1 nail biting victory over the Coppell Copperheads. The win moves the Bombers back into a tie for second place with the Copperheads and East Texas Pumpjacks at 11-13.

Brandon Godfrey pitched magnificently for the Bombers, striking out nine Copperhead hitters while only surrendering four hits and one run. Chad Colbert enjoyed a breakout performance at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run, a stolen base and an RBI single.

McCrory’s Arm, Pump Jacks Bats Top Marshals

From CBB News Sources

The East Texas Pump Jacks sport the Texas Collegiate League’s highest-scoring offense and best home-field record – and both were on display Sunday night.

The Pump Jacks defeated the McKinney Marshals, 7-1, at Driller Park, moving back to within four games of the first-place Marshals. The Jacks moved back into a tie for second place with the Brazos Valley Bombers and Coppell Copperheads.

East Texas benefited from a strong outing by Pat McCrory, who made his way back from an illness earlier this week to give up just one run over eight innings pitched. McCrory (2-1) scattered seven hits and walked five while striking out six. It was the second longest outing of the season for a Pump Jacks starter, topped only by Scott Copeland’s complete-game win over the Bombers Friday night.

The TCL; Brazos Valley turn the table on East Texas Pump Jacks.

It’s just no fun when the circumstances are reversed.

The East Texas Pump Jacks fell to the visiting Brazos Valley Bombers Thursday night, 8-6, when the Bombers broke a 6-6 tie with a pair of runs in the eighth inning. The Jacks had taken an early lead, which the Bombers erased with a six-run fifth, then tied the game in the seventh inning.

With the defeat, East Texas remains four games behind the first-place McKinney Marshals. The loss drops them a game back of the Bombers and the Coppell Copperheads, who are tied for second place.
