2012 Baseball America Top Prospects for Summer Leagues

DURHAM, N.C.–The Southeastern Conference once again dominated Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 20 college summer leagues and Team USA, which have been released at BaseballAmerica.com. The SEC leads all conferences with 31 players on the lists, followed by the Pacific-12 (24 players), the Atlantic Coast (16) and the Big 12 (13). Top 100 Countdown: 100. Joe Sclafani (Dartmouth)

College Baseball Daily kicks off our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We start off the countdown today at number 100 with Dartmouth senior shortstop Joe Sclafani from Palm City, Florida and attended Jensen Beach High School. He was a four year letter winner in baseball for Coach Todd Belowich. He helped lead the team as the starting shortstop to a 41-14 record as a junior and senior winning the District 14 title and the Regional runnerup in his final two seasons.  Continue reading Top 100 Countdown: 100. 2011 Baseball America Top Prospects for Summer Leagues and Team USA

DURHAM, N.C.–The Southeastern Conference, which has produced college baseball’s last three national champions, dominated Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 20 college summer leagues and Team USA, which have been released at BaseballAmerica.com. The SEC leads all conferences with 24 players on the lists, followed by the Pacific-12 (22 players), the Big 12 (18 players) and the Atlantic Coast (17). High Point adds Joe Mercurio to Coaching Staff

JoeMercurioHP The High Point University baseball team has added Joe Mercurio as a volunteer assistant coach, head coach Craig Cozart announced Monday. Mercurio was an All-Conference catcher at the University of Maine and spent last summer coaching the Glens Fall Golden Eagles in the New York Collegiate Baseball League.

Baseball America releases Top Prospects Lists for Summer Leagues and Team USA

BaseballAmerica DURHAM, N.C.–Mississippi and Washington State lead all schools by placing five players apiece on Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 18 different summer college leagues and Team USA. Last summer, Louisiana State and Texas each led the nation with five players apiece on BA’s summer league lists, and those two teams wound up facing off for the national championship at the College World Series.

BA ranked the top 30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, and the top 10 prospects in 17 other summer college leagues. In addition, the top 20 Team USA prospects were ranked.

Baseball America releases College Summer League Top Prospects

DURHAM, N.C.-Louisiana State and Texas lead all schools by placing five players apiece on Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 19 different summer college leagues and Team USA. Riverbats win NYCBL Championship in 10 Innings

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – Championship Series’ Most Valuable Player Ryan Nokelby (Texas Lutheran) plated Jeff Abrams (Binghamton) with a 10th-inning sacrifice fly as the Brockport Riverbats edged the Glens Falls Golden Eagles, 3-2, in 10 innings to win the 2008 New York Collegiate Baseball League championship. Kansas Jayhawks in the Summer Leagues.

With the season nearly half over, kuathletics.com checks in with the several current Jayhawks who are playing on summer collegiate teams. Many of these players compete with the best underclassmen in college baseball during their time away from KU.

# Buck Afenir (Jr., catcher) is enjoying a productive season for the San Diego Waves of the Western Baseball Association. As of July 8, the Escondido, Calif. native was hitting .315 with 11 doubles, three homers and 23 RBIs. However, Afenir’s most surprising number of the summer is the five stolen bases he has successfully attempted. He has never been called on to steal a base at KU.
