All Sports Photo Day 3: D.J. Stewart: BaseballCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the season with our 2014 Top 100 College Baseball Players. Today, we continue the countdown at number 32 with Florida State sophomore DJ Stewart. The multi-sport high school athlete at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida hit .424, driving in 29 runs while hitting nine home runs as a senior.He was very successful at winning state titles with five combined state championships in his career at Bolles (three in football and two in baseball). College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the season with our 2014 Top 100 College Baseball Players. Today, we continue the countdown at number 33 with Kansas State senior Ross Kivett. The Broadview Heights, Ohio native attended St. Edward High School where he was a three year letterwinner under Dan Allie. As a high school senior, he hit .485 (47-for-97) with 10 doubles, two triples, 16 RBI and 16 steals bringing his team to the high school championship. Continue reading

Today, we continue the countdown at number 34 with Derek Fisher from Virginia. The Rexmont, Pennsylvania native attended Cedar Crest High School where he had an outstanding career including being named all-state three times. He hit .484 with 12 home runs and 31 RBI as a senior. He was selected by Texas Rangers in sixth round of 2011 MLB Draft but decided to head to Virginia.  Continue reading

All Sports Photo Day 3: Luke Weaver: BaseballCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the season with our 2014 Top 100 College Baseball Players. Today, we continue the countdown at number 38 with Florida State junior Luke Weaver from Deland, Florida.  He checks in at a lanky 6’2 and 170 pounds. As a senior, he earned second team Rawlings All-America and first team All-State honors while being first team All-Area during his sophomore and junior seasons. He was drafted in the 19th round by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2011 MLB Draft but decided to go to Florida State. Continue reading

2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 40. Skyler Ewing (Rice)

SkylerEwingRiceWe continue the countdown today at number 40 with Rice junior Skyler Ewing. The Arlington, Texas native attended Arlington High School where he was a three year letter winner. As a senior, he batted .443 with 13 home runs and 46 RBI in the team’s 40 games while going 7-3 on the mound with a 3.26 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 67 innings of work. He was named the 2011 District 4-5A Utility Player of the Year among many other honors.  Continue reading

BlandinoStanford2We continue the countdown today with number 41 with Stanford junior infielder Alex Blandino. The Palo Alto, California native attended St. Francis High School where he was a four year letter winner. He won several awards as a senior including being named as the Cal-Hi Sports Player of the Year, San Jose Mercury News Baseball Player of the Year, Palo Alto Daily News Baseball Player of the Year, Rawlings Golden Glove, and an all-state performer. He was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 38th round but decided to stay home and go to Stanford. Continue reading

2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 44. Hunter Cole (Georgia)

Baseball Media Photos 2013 SeasonWe continue the countdown today with number 44, Georgia outfielder Hunter Cole. During his sophomore campaign with the Bulldogs, Cole made starts in all three outfield positions and was one of only two Bulldogs to start in all 53 games in 2013. The 6’1” outfielder batted .303 with four home runs and 33 RBI in 2013 and was among the top hitters on an always dangerous Bulldog lineup. His talent wasn’t confined to the diamond as Cole was also named to the 2013 UGA Athletic Director’s Academic Honor Roll and to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Continue reading

2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 45. Kyle Funkhouser (Louisville)

Louisville Baseball HeadshotsWe continue the countdown today with number 45, Louisville RHP Kyle Funkhouser. In his freshman campaign with the Cardinals, Funkhouser quickly became one of the elite pitchers in the Big East. The 6’2” right-hander was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American after going 5-1 with a 2.14 ERA. In 54.2 innings pitched, Funkhouser made a total of 22 appearances on the mound, including six starts collecting 54 strikeouts in the process. Continue reading

2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 55. Branden Cogswell (Virginia)

BrandenCogswellUVAWe continue the countdown today with number 55, Virginia shortstop Branden Cogswell. In his sophomore campaign with the Cavaliers, Cogswell found himself at the top of the lineup where he started the first 47 games. In 182 at bats, the rising junior posted an impressive .346 average with 63 hits, 55 runs and 22 RBI. The 6’2” infielder recorded 20 multiple hit games despite missing the last 15 games due to an injury. Cogswell played a huge part in the Cavaliers success in 2013 and his efforts on the diamond got him selected to the Second-Team All-ACC as well as named to the watch list for the Wallace Award which is given to the nation’s top shortstop.
