Southland Conference Baseball Players Of The Week

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as senior 1B Trent Lockwood, Northwestern State senior 1B Mike Jaworski and Texas State senior right hander Steven Siers are awarded weekly honors. Lockwood and Jaworski each claim their second honor of the season tying for the league lead. Siers earns his first and team’s first for Texas State. UTSA leads the total team count with four awards on the year with three consecutive.

SAN MARCOS – Steven Siers pitched seven full innings at Alumni Field blanking Southeastern Louisiana for his first career shut out, as the Texas State Bobcats run-ruled the Lions 11-0 Saturday afternoon in Hammond, La.

Texas State wasted no time putting the first run on the board when Laurn Randell put a two-out base hit into right field at the top of the first. On a wild pitch to Paul Goldschmidt, Randell advanced to second and Goldschmidt brought him around with a shot to centerfield.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama left-hander Miers Quigley threw one less scoreless inning Wednesday night than Southeastern Louisiana used pitchers in leading the Crimson Tide to a 7-0 win at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

The TCU Horned Frogs withstood a furious two-out rally by No. 30 Baylor Tuesday night to hang for the 4-3 victory at Baylor Ballpark. The victory is the sixth straight for the Horned Frogs and helps them improve to 11-0 in midweek contests this season. Clint Arnold was 4-for-5 at the plate, while Chris Ellington tallied two RBIs. SAN MARCOS – Four home runs, including a grand slam in the fifth inning coupled with a season-tying hit tally and a season-best stolen base mark highlighted the Texas State Bobcats first Southland Conference sweep of the season in the 13-4 takeover against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Zach Tritz held out for seven complete innings to notch his sixth straight win and maintain his perfect record on the mound. The `Cats now boast a 9-3 league record and a 17-10 overall mark after the success at Bobcat Field Sunday afternoon.

Steven Siers notched is second win of the season and matched a season-high eight strikout mark.

The Texas State Bobcats sent four runs across the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning the appeared to be enough for a success over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, but a two-run eighth gave the Islanders a chance to catch up but the effort was stopped short and the `Cats held on for a 5-3 win over the foe at Bobcat Field Saturday afternoon. Steven Siers broke the even tally for a 2-1 record after a seven-inning stint on the mound, allowing just one run to plate and matching a season-high eight strikeouts. UT- Arlington blast San Houston State 17-7

ARLINGTON, Texas – – Four UT Arlington baseball players had at least three hits each as the Mavericks pounded Sam Houston State pitching early and cruised to a 17-7 victory at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The victory extends a season-high win streak to four, but more importantly, opens a crucial Southland Conference series with a victory. UTA (11-18, 4-6) and Sam Houston (16-12, 5-5) continue the series with Game 2 today at 2 p.m.
