The TCU Horned Frogs withstood a furious two-out rally by No. 30 Baylor Tuesday night to hang for the 4-3 victory at Baylor Ballpark. The victory is the sixth straight for the Horned Frogs and helps them improve to 11-0 in midweek contests this season. Clint Arnold was 4-for-5 at the plate, while Chris Ellington tallied two RBIs. Paul Gerrish was outstanding in relief to earn the victory. (Full Story)

Southland Conference Player of the Week 04/07

UTSA pitcher Bradley Chovanec leads the SLC in innings pitched (57.1), complete games (3) and is tied with 6 wins.


FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference Baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as senior outfielder Kevin Crabtree and UTSA right hander Bradley Chovanec each claimed their first weekly honors of the season. UTSA moves into a tie with Southeastern Louisiana for most team awards on the season with three.

Southland Conference Recap 04/06


SAN MARCOS – Four home runs, including a grand slam in the fifth inning coupled with a season-tying hit tally and a season-best stolen base mark highlighted the Texas State Bobcats first Southland Conference sweep of the season in the 13-4 takeover against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Zach Tritz held out for seven complete innings to notch his sixth straight win and maintain his perfect record on the mound. The `Cats now boast a 9-3 league record and a 17-10 overall mark after the success at Bobcat Field Sunday afternoon.

Southland Conference recap 04/05

Steven Siers notched is second win of the season and matched a season-high eight strikout mark.

The Texas State Bobcats sent four runs across the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning the appeared to be enough for a success over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, but a two-run eighth gave the Islanders a chance to catch up but the effort was stopped short and the `Cats held on for a 5-3 win over the foe at Bobcat Field Saturday afternoon. Steven Siers broke the even tally for a 2-1 record after a seven-inning stint on the mound, allowing just one run to plate and matching a season-high eight strikeouts. Continue reading

UT- Arlington blast San Houston State 17-7


ARLINGTON, Texas – – Four UT Arlington baseball players had at least three hits each as the Mavericks pounded Sam Houston State pitching early and cruised to a 17-7 victory at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The victory extends a season-high win streak to four, but more importantly, opens a crucial Southland Conference series with a victory. UTA (11-18, 4-6) and Sam Houston (16-12, 5-5) continue the series with Game 2 today at 2 p.m.

Texas State and Mike Hart closes out a 4-2 victory over TAMU-CC

Mike Hart added eight strikeout to his resume for an overall tally of 192.

With the tying run at the plate, Mike Hart completed his third game of the season with four pitches, striking out Jacob Perales to retire the game and give the Texas State Bobcats a 4-2 success over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Islanders walked seven Bobcats and muddled through four pitchers to facilitate the defeat and with the loss, the visiting foe drops to 5-5 in Southland Conference action. Texas State improves to 7-3 and maintains a tying lead in West division competition. (more)

Baylor Bears falls to UTSA 11-7

WACO, Texas A pair of five-run innings proved detrimental for Baylor in Wednesday night’s midweek action at Baylor Ballpark as the Bears dropped an 11-7 decision to UTSA. The Bears (16-11) snapped a 23-game winning streak against UTSA (19-10), a streak that dated back to the 1994 season. Baylor also snapped a 13-game winning streak against Southland Conference teams, suffering its first loss to an SLC team since a 7-0 loss to McNeese State in 2006.

Larry Hays earn his 1500th career win as Tech tops TAMU-CC


LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Head Baseball Coach Larry Hays became just the fourth coach in NCAA history to reach 1,500 wins in a career as his Red Raiders notched a 10-5 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday afternoon that completed a two-game sweep of the Islanders at Dan Law Field.

Hays, the winningest coach in school history, joins elite company with today’s historic win as only Texas’ Augie Garrido, Wichita State’s Gene Stephenson and Florida State’s Mike Martin are the only coaches to reach this milestone. Hays is in his 38th season as a head coach and all 38 of those years have been spent in Lubbock as he led the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals for 16 years and has guided the Red Raiders for 22 seasons. Against Texas on March 21, 2008, he picked up the 800th win of his Texas Tech career and now has 805 victories as the Red Raider skipper.

TUSCON, Ariz. — Senior Trent Lockwood’s record-setting performance last week did not go unnoticed, as he was one of five players selected as Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week, Collegiate Baseball announced on Monday.

Lockwood is the second Roadrunner to be honored this month (junior Michael Rockett, March 3) and just the third to earn the award in the program’s 17-year history (Mark Schramek, April 22, 2002).

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference baseball players of the week were named today by the conference office as first basemen Trey Hernandez of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTSA Trent Lockwood earn co-player of the week honors. For the third consecutive week Southeastern Louisiana claims weekly honors as starting pitcher Wade Miley receives his first accolade of the season, giving the Lions three awards on the year for top marks in the SLC.
