Aaron Nola wins 2014 National Pitcher of the Year Award

LUBBOCK, Texas — The National College Baseball Hall of Fame is proud to announce Aaron Nola as the winner of the 2014 National Pitcher of the Year Award, sponsored by Diamond Sports.

The LSU junior had an outstanding 23-2 record with a 1.47 ERA in 2014. In 116 1/3 innings pitched, he had 134 strikeouts, a .172 opponents’ batting average, and gave up just four home runs. Continue reading

CWS Championship Series Game 2: Virginia 7 Vanderbilt 2

OMAHA, Neb. – Virginia’s hot hitting continued in Game Two of the 2014 College World Series Finals, as the Cavaliers defeated Vanderbilt, 7-2, to tie the series at one-all on Monday.

With the win, Virginia (53-15) forced a Game Three in the series and brought its CWS Finals’ hit total to 28 combined over the last two games. Vanderbilt (50-21) will look to rebound in the series finale.
Both squads are searching for their first NCAA Championship in baseball.

College World Series One-On-One: Vanderbilt OF Rhett Wiseman

OMAHA, Neb. — Vanderbilt (49-20) defeated Texas, 4-3, in walk-off fashion in the 10th inning to advance to the 2014 College World Series championship round.

Tyler Campbell beat out an infield single on a slow chopper to shortstop with the bases loaded and two outs to allow Rhett Wiseman to score the game-winning run Saturday night at TD Ameritrade Park. Continue reading

Robbie Coman, an unlikely hero in the No. 9 spot in the lineup, led the Cavaliers back from an early deficit to win the conclusion of a rain suspended game, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon to clinch the spot.

2014 CWS Game 11: Texas 4 Vanderbilt 0

OMAHA, Neb. – Texas jumped ahead early and rolled to a 4-0 victory over Vanderbilt at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.

Texas (46-20) tallied two runs in each of the first two innings to pull ahead, handing Vanderbilt (48-19) its first loss of the 2014 College World Series.
Nathan Thornhill (9-3) recorded the win for Texas, tossing eight innings and scattering six hits, walking one batter and striking out five Commodore batters. Continue reading
