Army retains Matt Reid as Head Coach

ArmyBaseballWEST POINT, N.Y. – Matt Reid, who held the position of interim head baseball coach this past season, has been selected as Army’s new head baseball coach, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Boo Corrigan announced today. Reid becomes the 17th head coach in the program’s 124 year history.

“After an exhaustive national search, the search committee and I realized we had the best candidate for our job right here at Army West Point,” said Corrigan. “Matt has demonstrated outstanding leadership this past season and continues to put his stamp on the program. As we looked over the very attractive pool, Matt’s commitment to the values and standards of West Point made him the ideal candidate. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.  – Senior left-handed pitcher Dan Weigel pitched a complete-game four-hitter and did not allow a run over the final eight innings in leading the Bucknell baseball team to a 5-2 NCAA Regional victory over Liberty Saturday afternoon at Davenport Field. It was the second NCAA postseason victory for the Bison, who equaled the program record for wins in a season as they improved to 31-20-1 on the season. 2014 Charlottesville Regional: Day 1 Recap

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia baseball team opened the 2014 NCAA Tournament with a 10-1 victory over Bucknell in the Charlottesville Regional Friday (May 30) at Davenport Field.

2014 NCAA Regional Preview: Charlottesville

No. 1 Virginia
One of the most tested teams in the tournament, Virginia (44-13) has played nine teams that made it to this spring’s field of 64. Ranked between from three to four in the national polls, Brian O’Connor’s team has been impressive, but saw their bid for the ACC title get cut short with a 6-4 loss to FSU on Saturday. Army searching for New Head Coach

ArmyBaseballArmy baseball has announced that they are doing a national search for a new head coach after Matt Reid served as the Interim Head Coach for the 2015 season. Reid took over the program on September 24th, 2013 when Joe Sottolano was given his walking papers. The Black Knights had a solid season going 33-18 and 15-5 in Patriot League play. 2014 Patriot League Preseason Coaches Poll

PatriotLeagueLogo_thumb.jpgCENTER VALLEY, Pa. – For the second straight season, there is a tie at the top of the Patriot League Baseball preseason poll as both Army and Navy shared the top spot in the rankings announced on Thursday.

The Black Knights and Mids were even with 42 points apiece, with Army garnering five first-place votes to three for the Navy. Holy Cross was not far behind with 35 points and a pair of first-place votes, while Bucknell took home 31 points and the remaining two first-place votes followed by Lehigh (17) and Lafayette (13). Navy releases 2014 Schedule

A season-opening series at Florida A&M and the annual Freedom Classic in Kinston, N.C., highlight Navy’s non-conference schedule.
