2013 NJCAA Division 1 Preseason Poll Released

NJCAABaseballLogoThe NJCAA Coaches Association has announced their 2013 NJCAA Division 1 Preseason Poll today. Leading the poll is Iowa Western with San Jacinto (TX) coming in second place. Rounding out the top five are Gordon (GA) State at number 3, Shelton (AL) State at four, and Jefferson (MO) in the fifth spot. You can check out the rest of the top 20 below. St. Petersburg Head Coach Rob Francis Arrested in Child Sex Sting

UPDATED ON DECEMBER 10th at 1:30 PM

Francis has posted bond of $5,100 and told to stay off the St. Petersburg campus as he was placed on administrative leave.  (Link)

Current St. Petersburg College head baseball coach Rob Francis was arrested as part of a Child Sex Sting in Orlando according to a report in The Orlando Sentinel. Francis has previously served as the director of baseball operations at Ole Miss from 2008-2010 seasons. Read the rest of this entry »

Snead State Baseball Coach Arrested

Casey Underwood, an assistant baseball coach at Snead State Community College, was arrested after an incident with basketball player Orlandis Hill outside of the school’s gym. Astros donate Van to Buddy Lamothe

Everyone knows the story behind Arizona State’s Cory Hahn or Georgia’s Johnathan Taylor suffering devastating neck injuries this past spring. There was another spinal cord injury that happened just before the 2011 MLB Draft to San Jacinto College’s Buddy Lamothe who suffered an injury which has severely hurt his mobility. The Astros ended up selecting Lamothe in the 40th round in the 2011 MLB Draft.  Read the rest of this entry »

Walters State RHP Chris Costantino tosses No-Hitter in NECBL

Chris Costantino (Walters St CC) became the fifth player in New England Collegiate Baseball League history to throw a no-hitter, as he cruised past the first-place Keene Swamp Bats Sunday night to a 7-0 victory.

Costantino allowed no hits while striking out nine Swamp Bats, improving his league-high total to 41 strikeouts this season. Keene had four men reach base Sunday night; two on walks, one on a fielder’s choice and one on a passed ball on a swinging strikeout. Read the rest of this entry »

Top 100 Countdown: 28. Austin Wood (USC)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 28 with USC junior RHP Austin Wood. The Niceville, Florida native attended Niceville High School where he had a standout career. As a junior in high school, he went 6-2 with a 1.35 ERA in 13 appearances (11 starts). He was named a third team All-American and first team All-Region from Rawlings. He also was named honorable mention All-State. He was drafted in the 2008 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros in 36th round but decided to head to Florida State to play under Mike Martin Sr. Read the rest of this entry »
