Villanova hires Jim Carone as Assistant Coach

The Villanova Wildcats hired Jim Carone as the new pitching coach. He comes to Villanova after spending the last two seasons with Rider. He brought Rider to the NCAA Tourney in 2008 where they participated in the NCAA Regional at Fullerton. Carone played for Monmouth during his collegiate days where he accumulated a record of 17-11 with a 3.67 ERA in 245 innings of work. Continue reading

Head Coach Sam Piraro Rounds Out Staff With Addition Of Brian Yocke

San Jose State University baseball head coach Sam Piraro has announced the addition of former Spartan outfield standout Brian Yocke as his volunteer assistant coach to round out his staff.

Yocke participated in the program for just one season in 2007, but made his mark with a unique story of perseverance. He was cut after one day of tryouts at the start of the 2006 fall season, but returned to the baseball offices the very next day to ask to be given a second chance. Piraro and his staff allowed Yocke to continue training with the team through the fall. He eventually successfully walked on to the squad and earned a roster spot for the 2007 spring campaign.

Head coach Tony Rossi announced the hiring of Joe Sinicola as the baseball team’s new pitching coach and recruiting coordinator effective immediately. Sinicola graduated from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla. where he played four seasons before serving as an assistant coach this past year.

Sinicola will be the primary assistant to Rossi, overseeing the development of the Saints’ pitching staff while handling a bulk of the program’s substantial recruiting responsibilities.

Former University of Memphis pitcher Brandon Rowan has joined the Pitt baseball coaching staff announced head coach Joe Jordano. Rowan, who most recently held the head coaching position at Crichton College in Memphis, Tenn., joins the Panthers’ staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

“I am very pleased to have a coach of Brandon Rowan’s character and experience join our staff,” said head coach Jordano.

Matt Tyner, a stand-out baseball player in the collegiate and professional ranks, is returning to the Butler coaching staff for the 2008-09 season as an assistant coach. Head coach Steve Farley made the announcement on Friday (Sept. 5).

Tyner replaces Bob Keeney, who left the position after seven seasons to pursue other interests.

Kyle Padgett has joined the Wake Forest baseball staff as the team’s new volunteer assistant coach, head baseball coach Rick Rembielak announced on Tuesday. Padgett replaces Marshall Canosa, who is now the pitching coach at Hofstra.

“We are very pleased to have Kyle join our program,” Rembielak said. “I think he has a very good background of playing and coaching, especially in the Cape Cod summer league. He will help us mainly with the catchers, and supplement us on the offensive side of the game.”

Demons sign two to complete ’09 signing class

Northwestern State baseball head coach J.P. Davis has announced the signing of his final two players for the 2009 season – right handed pitcher Carlos Maese and catcher Daniel Qualls.

Maese, a 6-1, 180-pounder from Ysleta High School in El Paso, Texas, earned most valuable player honors of his district as well as being named to the all-academic team.
