June 10 NCBWA Division I Baseball Poll

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 11th year with its 2008 weekly surveys. Polls will be circulated from Feb. 25-June 30 following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb. 2008 NCBWA DIVISION III PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

KENOSHA, Wis. – The NCAA Division III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association have selected McMurry University third baseman Derek David (Sr., Richmond, Texas/Richmond/Western Texas Junior College) as the 2008 NCBWA NCAA Division III Position Player of the Year and Christopher Newport University’s Kenny Moreland (Sr., Springfield, Va./Lee) as the NCBWA Division III Pitcher of the Year. 2008 Pro-Line Athletic NCBWA Freshman All-Americans Teams

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A total of 34 standout freshman college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the inaugural Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American Team, the organization announced today.

The 2008 Pro-Line Athletic NCBWA Freshman All-American Team is comprised from 15 conferences and seven conference championship teams. NCBWA June 3 Division I Poll

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 11th year with its 2008 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will be circulated from Feb. 25-June 30 following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.

The poll voters come from 30 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. This week’s poll has representation by 12 different conferences among the 297 baseball-playing schools in the 2008 NCAA Division I ranks. Continue reading NCBWA June 3 Division I Poll

NCBWA Names 2008 Stopper of the Year Finalists

STARKVILLE, Miss. (NCBWA) – Five of college baseball’s top relief specialists have been selected as finalists for the fourth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, the NCBWA announced Thursday.

This year’s finalists include NCAA saves leader Tyler Conn of Southern Miss, Scott Bittle of Mississippi, Joshua Fields of Georgia, A.J. Griffin of the University of San Diego and Eric Pettis of UC Irvine. All five relief aces helped their respective teams advance to the 64-team field of the 2008 NCAA Baseball Tournament, which begins this weekend at 16 regional sites across the nation.

NCBWA May 26 Division I poll

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 11th year with its 2008 weekly surveys. Polls will be circulated from Feb. 25-June 30 following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb. All 30 of the ranked teams and several receiving votes are head for the 16 NCAA Regionals Friday-Sunday/Monday, and the Top 30 includes 12 conference champs.

NCBWA Names Pro-Line Athletic National Players of the Week for May 20th

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 18, today. College of Charleston junior third baseman Jeremie Tice was named National Hitter of the Week, while Maryland sophomore right-hander Scott Swinson was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. NCBWA Announces 16 Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalists

LINCOLN, Neb. — The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, working in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, has released the list of 16 semifinalists for the 2008 Dick Howser Trophy, given to the top player in collegiate baseball. The membership of the NCBWA will choose the Dick Howser Trophy based on three rounds of voting. The 2008 winner will be announced just prior to the first game of the College World Series, with a press conference slated for Saturday, June 14, at 10 a.m. (CDT) at the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce.
