Fresno State’s Mike Batesole Named 2008 NCBWA National Coach of the Year

DALLAS, TX -The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has announced today that its inaugural National Coach of the Year Award will go to Fresno State skipper Mike Batesole.  The award, which was voted on by the NCBWA Board of Directors, was chosen from a list that included all Division I Conference Coaches of the Year.

Batesole has led the Bulldogs (42-29) to their College World Series since 1991 and guided Fresno State to Omaha as the first No. 4 seed to advance to the CWS since the 64-team format was introduced in 1999.  He earned Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors for the first time after Fresno State won their third consecutive regular season WAC title.

NCBWA Announces 2008 Pro-Line Athletic/NCBWA Division I All-America Teams

LINCOLN, Neb. – A total of 56 standout college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the 13th Annual Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America Team, the organization announced today.

The 2008 NCBWA All-America Team is comprised of teams from 19 different conferences and 17 conference championships teams. June 10 NCBWA Division I Baseball Poll

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 11th year with its 2008 weekly surveys. Polls will be circulated from Feb. 25-June 30 following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb. 2008 NCBWA DIVISION III PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

KENOSHA, Wis. – The NCAA Division III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association have selected McMurry University third baseman Derek David (Sr., Richmond, Texas/Richmond/Western Texas Junior College) as the 2008 NCBWA NCAA Division III Position Player of the Year and Christopher Newport University’s Kenny Moreland (Sr., Springfield, Va./Lee) as the NCBWA Division III Pitcher of the Year. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A total of 34 standout freshman college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the inaugural Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American Team, the organization announced today.

The 2008 Pro-Line Athletic NCBWA Freshman All-American Team is comprised from 15 conferences and seven conference championship teams. NCBWA June 3 Division I Poll

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 11th year with its 2008 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will be circulated from Feb. 25-June 30 following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.

NCBWA Names 2008 Stopper of the Year Finalists

STARKVILLE, Miss. (NCBWA) – Five of college baseball’s top relief specialists have been selected as finalists for the fourth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, the NCBWA announced Thursday.

This year’s finalists include NCAA saves leader Tyler Conn of Southern Miss, Scott Bittle of Mississippi, Joshua Fields of Georgia, A.J. Griffin of the University of San Diego and Eric Pettis of UC Irvine. All five relief aces helped their respective teams advance to the 64-team field of the 2008 NCAA Baseball Tournament, which begins this weekend at 16 regional sites across the nation.

NCBWA May 26 Division I poll

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 11th year with its 2008 weekly surveys. Polls will be circulated from Feb. 25-June 30 following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb. All 30 of the ranked teams and several receiving votes are head for the 16 NCAA Regionals Friday-Sunday/Monday, and the Top 30 includes 12 conference champs.
