MLB teams running Dry?

La Velle E. Neal III of The Star-Tribune took to task the MLB Draft in his weekly column for the paper. As he states in the article, MLB teams committed 17 percent more to 2011 MLB Draft picks when compared to 2010. Interesting enough, Bud Selig wants to set up a hard slotting system for the draft to avoid the last hour of signings that happens yearly. Read the rest of this entry »

UGA’s Johnathan Taylor Drafted by Texas Rangers

One of the craziest things I have ever seen, the Texas Rangers selected Georgia outfielder Johnathan Taylor in the 33rd round of the 2011 MLB Draft. In case you don’t know, Taylor was seriously injured on March 6th when he had a collision with teammate Zach Cone which injured the C-5 and C-6 vertebrae. He has shown some improvement but still has very little movement below his waist. Do you think the Rangers made a bad selection so early in the Draft when it is highly unlikely that Taylor will ever play baseball again? Is the MLB Draft too long when teams are wasting 33rd round picks on players? We have included some fan reactions below and feel free to leave your comments. Read the rest of this entry »

Aman Reaka’s Top 99 College Prospects (No. 1-24)

Welcome to my yearly Pre-season college baseball top 99 (draft eligible) players. (Part 1: 99-75|Part 2: 74-50|Part 3: 25-49) This list is not meant to be a prediction of draft position, although in some sense it wont be too far off. My list is more about who I think will have more success at the next level. This is not a science. It is purely my opinion after watching video, talking to scouts and scouting some of the players personally. This is the pre-season list which in all honesty shouldn’t really even be attempted. A chunk of these players won’t even be in the story by years end and many others will need to be included. This list is purely a vehicle to make you aware of what the college landscape and the MLB draft might look like. I will do this all over again after the college season is over. Questions and comments can be commented on below and you can also find me on Twitter @bkmhoxx. Read the rest of this entry »
