Junior Frank Pesanello hit what was the eventual game-winning, pinch-hit, three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to guide the Northeastern University baseball team to an 8-6 victory over the Rhode Island Rams at Bill Beck Field in Kingston, Rhode Island on Tuesday evening.

Pesanello’s homer was his sixth of the season, putting him second on the team behind captain Mike Lyon, who has eight on the season. Lyon, who has been anchoring the Husky attack all season, led the team with three hits, including two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Shockers complete sweep of TCU

WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State (11-3) took all three games against TCU (9-8), wrapping up with a 5-1 win Sunday afternoon.

Wichita State scored in the first inning for the ninth time in 14 games. Ryan Jones singled up the middle and Conor Gillaspie brought him around with a double to left field.

The Shockers added a run in both the second and third innings. Kenny Williams, Jr., walked and stole second, allowing him to cross home on a bouncer into center field by Andy Dirks. Josh Workman doubled just fair down the right field line and scored easily on a single by Bret Bascue that bounced past the third baseman. Continue reading Shockers complete sweep of TCU

Indiana State knocks of Charleston 6-3

Brian Jett collected three hits and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning leading Indiana State to a 6-3 win over College of Charleston in college baseball action before 471 at Patriots Point Stadium on Sunday.

Charleston, which stands at 13-6, plays host to nationally ranked South Carolina at 7:00 on Tuesday. The Sycamores, who earned a split of the four-game series with Charleston, improved to 4-10. Continue reading Indiana State knocks of Charleston 6-3

DALLAS, Texas – Northern Illinois and Dallas Baptists combined for 19 runs and 23 hits Thursday night before the home team prevailed 11-8 at Patriot Field. The Huskies (3-9) held a 7-5 advantage before the Patriots (10-4), who received votes in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll, mounted a comeback keyed by a five-run seventh inning. Oral Roberts’ baseball team scored a season-high 12 runs en route to defeat No. 9 Baylor, 12-2, sweeping the Bears in the two-game mid-week series, Wednesday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

Texas A&M rallied to take the lead with a three-run sixth, and the pitching staff allowed Centenary two hits the rest of the way, as the 22nd-ranked Aggies defeated the Gents 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon to sweep the series before 2,778 fans at Olsen Field.

Spokane, Wash.- Junior first baseman Ryan Wiegand homered for the third straight game and Gonzaga University won its fourth straight and its seventh in the last eight outings with a 7-4 win over Indiana University Monday in the opener of the Pepsi/Johnny Quick baseball tournament at Beiden Field.

With the scored tied 4-4 in the eighth, Wiegand hit a two-out 0-1 pitch to left-center to put the Bulldogs (7-5) up 6-4. Evan Wells had opened the inning with a walk off Anthony Agnew, on in relief of Hoosiers (3-6) starter Tyler Tufts. Chris Squires relieved Agnew and the Bulldogs got a sacrifice bunt and a groundout to third to set the stage for Wiegand, who tied Jason Chatwood for the team home run lead. Sophomore Sheldon McDonald threw eight shutout innings of five-hit, nine-strikeout ball and did not walk a batter, as he led the Huskies to a 5-0 win over the Western Michigan Broncos on Wednesday afternoon at IMG Academies in BRadenton, Fla. Western Michigan entered the game having scored at least 15 runs in three of its last five games, but McDonald kept the Bronco bats silent all afternoon.
