Since we are awaiting the start of the 2009 College Baseball season, I thought I would start a weekly segment with users sending us questions about interesting topics. Top 15 Valley League Hitters

All Things Valley League has put together a Top 15 of the best hitters in the league during the 2008 season. The list is led by Florida International’s Tyler Townsend who had an outstanding summer with Winchester. He finished the season with a .387 average with 12 homers and 36 RBI in only 42 games. He also stole 14 bases in 17 attempts. Brandon Sizemore of College of Charleston comes in the runners up spot. He had a .377 average with 10 homers and 34 RBI. The rest of the top 5 is filled out by Marcus Nidfiffer (Kentucky), Drew Johnson (San Francisco), and Mickey Wiswall (Boston College). 2009 College Baseball Schedules- 12/17/08

The Niagara Purple Eagles have put out their 2009 schedule which includes games against teams from the Big 12, Atlantic 10, MAC among others. They will open the season on February 21st with a doubleheader at Richmond as they will finish the weekend set on the next day with a single game. They will then head down to Maryland for five games with three against Maryland-Eastern Shore and a doubleheader against Coppin State. The Purple Eagles continue their 14 game road trip the following weekend when they will travel to Manhattan Kansas for a four game set against the Big 12 power. They end the season opening roadtrip by taking part in the Villanova Baseball Classic where they will play Temple, St. Joseph’s, and the host Villanova. Continue reading Niagara 2009 Schedule

Marist adds six for 2010 season

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist baseball head coach Dennis Healy has announced the signing of six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. The signing of all six players helps to solidify the future of the Red Foxes; the team loses eight players to graduation this spring. “Our assistant coaches, Joe Michalski and Tom Shanley, did an outstanding job with these six players,” Healy said. “We are extremely excited they are attending Marist next year.” Continue reading Marist adds six for 2010 season

Canisius releases 2009 Schedule


The Canisius College baseball team will take on Virginia, West Virginia and Charlotte in its 2009 schedule that features 17 home games, including the Big Four Baseball Classic at the Demske Sports Complex.

Canisius opens with a four-game series at Gardner-Webb Feb. 20-22. The Golden Griffins will take on Charlotte in a three-game series Feb. 27-March 1. The 49ers have won 40 games each of the last two seasons and have the fourth-highest winning percentage in the country since 2006. Continue reading Canisius releases 2009 Schedule

Siena Siena grabs Six NLI’s

Head coach Tony Rossi announced the signing of six student-athletes to binding National Letters of Intent today. Local products Kyle Baldani, Mike Fish and Robert Tedesco join Larry Balwkill, Jake Werdesheim and Justin Brantley as newcomers who will join the program next fall.

“I feel this class is every bit as good as last year’s which received an honorable mention ranking by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper as one of the top recruiting classes in the country,” Rossi said. “Assistant coaches Joe Sinicola and Rob Ditoma did an outstanding job identifying and addressing our needs for next year.” Continue reading Siena Siena grabs Six NLI’s

Villanova hires Jim Carone as Assistant Coach

The Villanova Wildcats hired Jim Carone as the new pitching coach. He comes to Villanova after spending the last two seasons with Rider. He brought Rider to the NCAA Tourney in 2008 where they participated in the NCAA Regional at Fullerton. Carone played for Monmouth during his collegiate days where he accumulated a record of 17-11 with a 3.67 ERA in 245 innings of work. Continue reading Villanova hires Jim Carone as Assistant Coach
