CSTV Preseason Player of the Year

CSTV has put out their 2008 Preseason Player of the Year list which puts Pedro Alvarez in the top spot. Former Vanderbilt teammate David Price was able to win the award in 2007 after an oustanding campaign. Alvarez led the Commodores in hitting at a .386 clip while finishing second on the team with 18 homers. He picked up several awards in 2007 being named to several All-American teams. The CBB voted in the poll and put Justin Smoak in the top spot slightly ahead of Pedro. The full article from CSTV is available here.

Harvard releases 2008 schedule

The Harvard Crimson has put out their 2008 schedule which is one of the best OOC schedules in the entire nation. The Crimson will open the season on March 7th when they head to Wichita State for the first game of a three game set. Yale Releases 2008 Baseball Schedule

FROM PRESS RELEASE
NEW HAVEN, Conn.–The 2008 Yale baseball schedule was announced today. The 46-game slate includes 20 conference games and 15 home contests at Yale Field.

The season gets underway with a three-game series at George Washington on March 1-2. The Bulldogs and Colonials will square off in a doubleheader on March 1, then a single game the following day. Continue reading Yale Releases 2008 Baseball Schedule

Brown and Georgetown name new assistant coaches

The Brown Bears have announced that former BU player Dave Cunningham has been added to the coaching staff. He picked was a four year starter for the Terriers and team captain during his final two seasons. The full press release is available here.

Georgetown has also picked up a new assistant coach in Curtis Brown. He comes with experience as a pitching coach with ACC school Wake Forest and Richmond. He played his college ball from 1994-98 for the Spiders before moving into the coaching ranks. The full press release is available here.

CBB talks with John Cole (Penn)

John Cole in ActionThe College Baseball Blog recently had a chance to talk to John Cole who is entering his third season with the Penn Quakers. They won the Lou Gehrig division in 2007 but were swept by the Brown Bears in two games.

1. In 2007, Penn had a great season in the Ivy League by going 12-8 in the conference but finishing with an overall record of 20-19. The Quakers return a veteran squad as seven out of the nine starters from the 2007 Gehrig Division championship team return. 2008 Ivy League Preview

The CBB will be providing conference previews throughout the preseason. We start this week with the Ivy League. I know you would rather see us preview the ACC or SEC but I have a guilty pleasure for the Ivy League. It is very competitive baseball that is a must-see for a baseball junkie like myself. The Brown Bears won the Ivy League title with a two game sweep over the Penn Quakers. Brown ended up winning the Red Rolfe Division over Harvard by two games while Penn ended up winning the Lou Gehrig Division by only a single game over Princeton.
