Buckeye Nine talks with Zach Hurley

ZachHurleyOhioState Chris Webb of Buckeye Nine recently posted an excellent Q and A with Ohio State outfielder Zach Hurley. He was selected in the 45th round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Florida Marlins. Hurley’s stock tumbled after an injury to his throwing shoulder during fall workouts. He played every game in the 2009 season missing only one game but was never 100 percent. You really could not tell though as Hurley had an outstanding season hitting .346 with six homers and 53 RBI.

Bryan Fuller is the RHP for Campbellsville who pitched 21 scoreless innings during the NAIA sectional tournament at Saint Charles, MO. CBB met up with him at the NAIA Baseball National Championship in Lewiston, ID:

Bob Broughton: Your scoreless inning streak ended Saturday morning against Southern Polytechnic, but you kept Campbellsville in the game.

Bryan Fuller: The Hornets poked the ball through with some timely hits. I threw 73 pitches, and the game was tied 3-3 when I left the game after five innings. I was relieved by Eric Mattos, who is normally our number two starter. He had some control problems, gave up a couple of runs [one of them unearned] and left the game with us trailing 5-3. We ended up losing on a home run in the ninth. Continue reading

Senior Jeremy Barnes is gearing up for his fourth season as an infielder with the Irish baseball squad. The Garland, Texas native has seen action in 169 games for the Irish, compiling a .287 batting average, with 127 RBI and 11 home runs. A year ago, Barnes batted .307 with eight home runs and a team-leading 50 RBI. The former second baseman, who will move to shortstop this season, led the team in doubles (15) and slugging percentage (.513) in 2008.

CBI talks to Justin Milo (Vermont)

College Baseball Insider recently posted an interview with Vermont dual sport athlete Justin Milo. He is a hockey player during the winter and trades his skates for spikes after the Frozen Four when he joins the baseball squad. At the time of the interview, he was tied for third in scoring on the nationally ranked hockey squad. Last season in baseball, Milo had a .328 average with six homers and 40 RBI in 50 games.
