2014 Bloomington Regional: Day 3 Recap

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Stanford eliminated Youngstown State and stayed alive in the Bloomington Regional with an 12-4 win Sunday afternoon at Bart Kaufman Field. Brett Hanewich threw seven innings, while allowing one earned run on three hits, and Danny Diekroeger went 3-4 with three RBI to lead the Cardinal.

Stanford (32-24) moves on to tonight’s championship round against No. 4 national seed Indiana by ending Youngstown State’s season. Bloomington, Ind. – Youngstown State fifth-year senior Patrick O’Brien pitched 6.1 strong innings, and the Penguins beat Indiana State 5-2 for the program’s first victory in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon in the Bloomington Regional. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Freshman Cal Quantrill threw a complete game and classmate Jack Klein hit a three-run home run to lead Stanford to an 8-1 win over Indiana State in the first game of the Bloomington Regional.

As a first-year head coach, Wright State’s Greg Lovelady is taking every opportunity to improve his understanding of the game and management of the ballplayers in his care.

It’s Lovelady’s 10th year overall at Wright State, but his first in charge of everything after nine seasons as Rob Cooper’s assistant. His baseball pedigree includes two national championships (1999, 2001) as a player at Miami, a brief pro career in the Florida Marlins minor league system, and three regional appearances with the Raiders (2006, 2009, 2011). Valparaiso releases 2014 Schedule

SchmackBrianHead baseball coach Brian Schmack announced his club’s schedule for the 2014 season Thursday.

The Crusaders will open their season on Valentine’s Day when they head to Alabama to face Samford Feb. 14th-16th. They’ll make a return trip to the Heart of Dixie the following weekend for a three-game set with Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks went 22-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference last season.
