2012 NCAA Division 3 Bracket Released

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee has announced the 56 teams that will compete in the 2012 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

Six teams will compete at four regional sites and eight teams will compete at four regional sites. All regionals will use a double-elimination format. Thirty-eight conference champions qualified automatically. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 Division 3 Baseball Bracket Released

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee has announced the 55 teams that will compete in the 2011 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

Six teams will compete at four regional sites; seven teams will compete at one regional site; eight teams will compete at three regional sites.  All regionals will use a double-elimination format.  Thirty-eight conference champions qualified automatically. Read the rest of this entry »

St. Cloud State Player to become Mayor

Current St. Cloud State shortstop Kent Koch has a huge week ahead of him. He will start up practice today for the upcoming 2011 season and will be sworn in as mayor of his hometown Loretto tomorrow. Kock won the mayoral race for a two year term back in November when he ran unopposed. Last season, Koch played in 43 games (29 starts) while hitting .333 with two homers and 19 RBI. Justine Siegal has made breaking down barriers for women in sports her life’s mission. So first stepping onto the baseball diamond as an assistant coach with Springfield (MA) College men’s baseball three years ago was just another step towards her life’s passion.

Metrodome Cancels February and March College Baseball Schedule

Updated at 8:13pm with Minnesota’s press release information:

The Metrodome has cancelled its scheduled college baseball games in the months of February and March due to repairs needed on the stadium’s roof. The roof infamously collapsed on December 12th after a heavy snowstorm. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 Division 3 Preseason Poll by College Baseball Newspaper

Collegiate Baseball Newspaper has released their 2011 Preseason Division 3 Poll. This year Heidelberg (OH) takes the top spot in the poll after going 42-8 last season where they appeared in the Division 3 College World Series. Coming in at number 2 is SUNY-Cortland who went 40-10-1 last season as they played in the Division 3 title game in 2010. The Top 5 is rounded out by Wisconsin-Stevens Point at number 3, Kean, NJ at number 4, and defending national champion Illinois Wesleyan checking in at number 5. Metrodome Collapse Causing Trouble in Baseball

Metrodome PhotoAs nearly everybody saw last weekend, the Metrodome roof collapsed from the weight of snow which caused the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings to move their last two home games to other sites. The Metrodome is the home to over 100 college baseball games during the early part of the season with some days featuring 24 straight hours of baseball.

SE Missouri adds Josh Stoetzel to Coaching Staff

StoetzelSEMissouri CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO.- The Southeast Missouri baseball team has completed its coaching staff with the recent addition of Josh Stoetzel.

Stoetzel will be a volunteer coach for the 2010-11 season. He graduated from Oswego State University where he played catcher and first base. He hit .360 in two seasons for the Division III school. This past season, Stoetzel coached at Oswego State.

Duke to add former Bates head coach Edwin Thompson to Coaching Staff

EdwinThompsonBates According to multiple sources, former Bates College head baseball coach Edwin Thompson will be named an Assistant Coach at Duke. In two years at Bates, Thompson compiled a 37-33 record. The Bobcats finished 12-22 in 2009, then set a school record for victories by going 25-11 (6-6 in conference) last spring.
