Starkville, Miss. – Playing in their sixth elimination game in the past eight days, the Central Arkansas Bears showed that the threat of neither elimination nor rain was enough to put them away. The fourth-seeded Bears overcame a rain delay and a comeback attempt to win their first ever NCAA tournament game, defeating the third-seeded Mercer Bears by a final score of 6-5 in eleven innings to keep their season alive for at least one more day. BOCA RATON, FL – Florida Atlantic University’s baseball team, ranked No. 23 nationally by Baseball America, used the strong arm Austin Gomber, who moved to 8-4 on the season, and the hot bats of seniors Nathan Pittman and Corey Keller to defeat Canisius 14-6 in Saturday’s elimination game of the Chapel Hill NCAA Tournament. BATON ROUGE – An offensive explosion in the late innings highlighted the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team’s 15-1 victory over Jackson State in the first elimination game of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional here Saturday afternoon at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field.
The Cajuns (42-19) responded from being held to two runs on four hits on Friday against Sam Houston State by collecting 15 runs on 19 hits against Jackson State, registering two four-run innings – in the fifth and eighth inning – and a six-run inning in the ninth. The 14-run margin of victory marked the largest victory in the NCAA Baseball Championship for the Cajuns. Continue reading

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Anthony Izzio scattered seven hits and allowed just one run in six innings pitched to lead the second-seeded University of South Alabama baseball team to a 9-4 win over third-seeded Mercer in the opening round of the NCAA Starkville Regional at Dudy Noble Field.
