BOCA RATON, Fla. – Junior first baseman Yonder Alonso blasted a two-out two-run ninth inning home run and No. 1 Miami overcame a seven-run deficit to rally past Florida Atlantic, 12-10, Wednesday night at FAU Stadium in front of 2,348 fans. CORAL GABLES, FL – Florida Atlantic right-hander Michael Obradovich struck out a season-best seven batters, allowing just three runs in eight outstanding innings and All-America candidate William Block hit two home runs in the Owls’ 6-3 win over No. 1 Miami.

Florida Atlantic (19-11) bolstered its 2008 resume with a road win over the nation’s best team. FAU is averaging 41 victories per season since 1999, during that span the Owls have qualified for NCAA Regional play six times. Continue reading

MIAMI, Fla. – Sophomore right-hander David Gutierrez no-hit Florida International for the first three innings and No. 2 Miami erupted for 11 runs during those innings as the Hurricanes cruised past the Golden Panthers, 13-2, at University Park Wednesday night. Cowgill hits two homers, Cohen wins 300th game

LEXINGTON, Ky. — All-America centerfielder Collin Cowgill belted two mammoth home runs and Sawyer Carroll added three RBI, as the No. 10 Kentucky baseball team notched a 7-3 win over the pesky Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, securing head coach John Cohen’s 300th career win, on Wednesday night, in front of a season-high 2,549 fans at Cliff Hagan Stadium. NCBWA names Pro-Line Athletic Players of the Week for March 25th

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 25, today. Florida Atlantic senior outfielder Mike McKenna was named National Hitter of the Week, while Missouri junior right-hander Aaron Crow was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. Continue reading

UNO completes sweep of Bama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of New Orleans baseball team hit four home runs, including two home runs by first baseman Jerad Comarda en route to a 17-8 win over the University of Alabama baseball team on a chilly Wednesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Comarda, who had played in nine games and made two starts entering Wednesday’s game at Alabama, went 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI as the Privateers completed the two-game sweep of the Crimson Tide. Comarda hit a solo home run in the second inning and added a two run home run in the eighth. Continue reading

Bama hosts New Orleans for two-game set

The Alabama Crimson Tide will welcome New Orleans for a brief two game set on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Crimson Tide have a 9-7 overall record and 0-3 in the SEC after being swept by Kentucky over the weekend. Brandon May leads the team in hitting with a .431 average and has accumulated 14 walks in the first 16 games of the season. The Tide will send two juniors to the mound with right-hander Casey Kebodeaux (2-1, 4.44 ERA) taking the ball on Tuesday and left-hander Miers Quigley (2-1, 4.44 ERA) to the mound on Wednesday. Sun Belt Weekend Re-Cap: Ragin Cajuns Continue Downward Spiral

After going 2-6 in their last 8 games, the formerly Top 25 ranked Ragin’ Cajuns (4-9) looked to get back to their winning ways with a three game series against Sun Belt opponent Arkansas State (8-4).

But the Indians would have none of that as they pulled off an impressive three game sweep over Cajuns at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field in Lafayette, Louisiana this weekend.

Due to inclement weather, the teams played a doubleheader on Saturday with ASU winning 3-0 and 9-5 respectively. Continue reading

BleedCrimson.net talks with Gary Ward

Our buddy over at BleedCrimson.net talked with Gary Ward and Rocky Ward about Gary being inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame two days ago. Gary is currently the assistant coach with the New Mexico State Aggies with his son Rocky as the head coach. Gary had a successful career with Oklahoma State from 1978-1996 then with the Aggies in 2001 and 2002 before turning the reins over to his son. Gary led Oklahoma State to 16 consecutive conference titles and 17 NCAA Regional appearances, and 10 trips to the CWS. He led the Aggies to the 2002 Sun Belt Championship as he finished with a 1,022-361-1 record which is fourth all-time. You can hear the whole interview by clicking here.
