Arizona State baseball struggled this season with a 33-24 campaign and head coach Tim Esmay is facing some intense heat from his athletic director Ray Anderson who was hired in January. Earlier, this year he stated that he was not happy with the direction of the program and today was a guest on 98.7 Arizona’s Sports Page where he made some interesting comments about Esmay. Corvallis, Ore. – Andrew Morales and Evan Manarino combined for 7.2 innings on short rest as UC Irvine defeated No. 1 overall seed Oregon State 4-2 in the finale of the Corvallis Regional.

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Senior Ben Wetzler pitched a complete-game four-hitter and Oregon State eliminated UNLV 6-1 on Sunday to remain in contention for the Corvallis Regional title.
Wetzler struck out 10 and raised his record to 12-1 with his school-record 36th career victory. He is 8-0 with a 0.66 ERA in eight home starts and has not allowed more than two runs in any outing. Continue reading

OXFORD, Miss. – Matt Gonzalez broke a 1-1 tie with a two-out, two-run double in the ninth inning as No. 25 Georgia Tech rallied to stave off elimination Sunday with a 4-2 win over Jacksonville State in the NCAA Oxford Regional.
The Yellow Jackets (37-26) will play again Sunday versus the loser of a game between Washington and Ole Miss that was set for a 4 p.m. ET first pitch. The late game at Ole Miss’s Swayze Field will begin at approximately 8 p.m. ET on ESPN3. Continue reading

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Stanford eliminated Youngstown State and stayed alive in the Bloomington Regional with an 12-4 win Sunday afternoon at Bart Kaufman Field. Brett Hanewich threw seven innings, while allowing one earned run on three hits, and Danny Diekroeger went 3-4 with three RBI to lead the Cardinal.
Stanford (32-24) moves on to tonight’s championship round against No. 4 national seed Indiana by ending Youngstown State’s season. The Penguins had won five of their last six, including the program’s first NCAA regional win Saturday against Indiana State. Continue reading
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After losing 4-2 to Cal Poly on Friday night, first baseman Rhys Hoskins said Sacramento State wasn’t going to go “two-and-que” (being eliminated after losing the two first games).
The MLB Draft prospect did his part to assure that the Hornets’ season didn’t end Saturday afternoon at Baggett Stadium. Hoskins reached base three times and cut down the potential tying runner at home in the ninth inning.
Sacramento State (40-23) scored three runs in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and then held on through a wild ninth inning. In the final frame, Arizona State big bopper RJ Ybarra knocked a two-run homer and the Sun Devils (33-24) put the tying runner on third base, but Hoskins fired home on a chopper and got runner Drew Stankiewicz hung in a rundown. Alex Palsha finished off the game by striking out Trever Allen on a high curveball.

CORVALLIS, Ore. – UNLV baseball (36-24) fought off elimination in the NCAA tournament by beating North Dakota State (25-26) 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Continue reading
