2014 Nashville Super Regional: Stanford 5 Vanderbilt 4

NASHVILLE — Stanford’s Wayne Taylor sent the Nashville Super Regional to a third and deciding game with a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to beat Vanderbilt, 5-4, Saturday afternoon. The shot over the right center wall tied the series after Vanderbilt won the opener, 11-6, Friday.

“It was a great college baseball game,” said Mark Marquess, the Clarke and Elizabeth Nelson Director of Baseball. “A little bit too great for me late.”

Taylor lifted a 95 mile per hour fastball from Adam Ravenelle (3-2) towards the stands in right center, as Vanderbilt’s outfielders gave chase. The one-out shot in a 1-1 count carried over the wall and into the bleachers at Hawkins Field, silencing the sold-out crowd. Continue reading

Is Arizona State looking to make a Coaching Change?

Arizona State baseball struggled this season with a 33-24 campaign and head coach Tim Esmay is facing some intense heat from his athletic director Ray Anderson who was hired in January. 2014 Corvallis Regional: Day 4 Recap

Corvallis, Ore. – Andrew Morales and Evan Manarino combined for 7.2 innings on short rest as UC Irvine defeated No. 1 overall seed Oregon State 4-2 in the finale of the Corvallis Regional.

The Anteaters (39-23) play Oklahoma State in the Super Regionals in Stillwater, Okla., next. Oregon State (45-14) fell short at home in front of 3,435 baseball fans. Continue reading

2014 Corvallis Regional: Day 3 Recap

Oregon State 6 UNLV 1

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Senior Ben Wetzler pitched a complete-game four-hitter and Oregon State eliminated UNLV 6-1 on Sunday to remain in contention for the Corvallis Regional title.

Wetzler struck out 10 and raised his record to 12-1 with his school-record 36th career victory. He is 8-0 with a 0.66 ERA in eight home starts and has not allowed more than two runs in any outing. Continue reading

2014 Oxford Regional: Day 2 Recap

Georgia Tech 4 Jacksonville State 2

OXFORD, Miss. – Matt Gonzalez broke a 1-1 tie with a two-out, two-run double in the ninth inning as No. 25 Georgia Tech rallied to stave off elimination Sunday with a 4-2 win over Jacksonville State in the NCAA Oxford Regional.

The Yellow Jackets (37-26) will play again Sunday versus the loser of a game between Washington and Ole Miss that was set for a 4 p.m. ET first pitch. The late game at Ole Miss’s Swayze Field will begin at approximately 8 p.m. ET on ESPN3. Continue reading

2014 Bloomington Regional: Day 3 Recap

Stanford 12 Youngstown State 4

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Stanford eliminated Youngstown State and stayed alive in the Bloomington Regional with an 12-4 win Sunday afternoon at Bart Kaufman Field. Brett Hanewich threw seven innings, while allowing one earned run on three hits, and Danny Diekroeger went 3-4 with three RBI to lead the Cardinal.

Stanford (32-24) moves on to tonight’s championship round against No. 4 national seed Indiana by ending Youngstown State’s season. The Penguins had won five of their last six, including the program’s first NCAA regional win Saturday against Indiana State.  Continue reading
