ARIZONA NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Arizona has been ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s Fabulous 40 pre-season NCAA Division I poll.

The Wildcats have their strongest team since winning national championships in 1976, 1980 and 1986 as nine position player starters are back along with seven superb pitchers from a team which finished second in the Pac-10 Conference a year ago with a 42-17 overall record. CBB Top Freshmen in 2008

The CBB has been previewing some of the top players in the country for the 2008 season throughout this off-season. This week we check in on the top freshmen in the country.

Derek Dietrich SS/P (Georgia Tech)

Derek Dietrich is a 6’1 199 pound shortstop/pitcher out of Parma OH. He was a third round pick by the Houston Astros in 2007 but elected to enroll at Georgia Tech after failing to come to terms on a contract. Continue reading CBB Top Freshmen in 2008

  • Arkansas, led by Austin Wright, Bobby Bundy and Tyler Sample.
  • Florida, with Ryan Weber, Nick Maronde and Jerico Weitzel.
  • Georgia, featuring Brett DeVall, Michael Palazzone and Xavier Avery.
  • Kentucky, boasting Alex Meyer, Andy Burns and Daniel Webb.
  • San Diego State, lining up Isaac Galloway, Ryan O’Sullivan and Matt Lollis.

Utes and Hoosiers getting ready for 07

The University of Utah Utes are preparing for the upcoming season. The first practice for the Ute squad will be Monday and the first game is on Feb. 2nd at Santa Clara. The full press release about them preparing for the season is available here. The full schedule is also available here.

The Indiana Hoosiers have started up a series of press releases about the newcomers to the program. The first player showcased is Tom Devero. They also have added a preview with Matt Bashore which can also be read.
The Hoosiers open the season on Feb. 23rd against Troy and the full schedule is able to be viewed here.

2007 Signings


The 2007 Signing period has started for College Baseball. The Boston College Eagles have signed 13 players including nine student-athletes from Massachusetts or Connecticut. This is a sign that Aoki will be focusing on dominating the recruiting trail with New England kids attending BC. We have a bunch of press releases on the rest of the country.
