MAC Weekend Recap (March 20th-22nd)

macAkron (10-10, 2-1) vs. Eastern Michigan (7-14, 1-2)

The Zips took 2-out-of-3 against Eastern Michigan to open up conference play. John Valek gave up 2 earned runs on 8 hits and a walk over 9 innings with 4 strikeouts. Dom Iero was 3-5 with a run and 3 RBI and Joey Havrilak was 3-4 with a run and an RBI. Eastern Michigan took the second game 3-1 as Charlie Land gave up 1 earned run on 7 hits and a walk over 7.1 innings with 3 strikeouts, and Mike Mioduszewski was 2-4 with a run and an RBI. In the loss Daulton Mosbarger was 4-4 with an RBI for Akron. In the series finale Akron won 3-1 as Jon Pusateri tossed 6 innings without giving up an earned run with 7 strikeouts. CBD Interview with Western Michigan junior shortstop Kurt Hoekstra

Western Michigan’s junior shortstop Kurt Hoekstra is quickly becoming one of the most exciting players in the MAC conference. In his first full season as a starter, he hit .297 and led the team in runs (34), hits (63) and walks (22), while playing exceptional defense. MAC Baseball Weekend Recap (March 6th-8th)

macAkron (7-5):
The Zips started out the weekend with a rough 17-9 loss to Coastal Carolina. In the loss Daulton Mosbarger was 2-4 with 3 runs scored, while Kris Simonton was 3-5 with 2 runs and an RBI. Akron then bounced back to beat Michigan State 3-1. J.T. Brubaker had a solid outing on the mound giving up just 1 ER on 8 hits and 1 walks over 8 innings with 4 strikeouts. Matt Rembielak was 3-5 with a run scored. They finished off the weekend with a huge 2-0 shutout victory over Michigan. MAC Weekend Recap (Feb. 27th-March 1st)

macAkron (5-4): 

The Zips lost a couple of 1-run games and salvaged a win against Belmont over the weekend. They lost on Friday 6-5 to Mercer despite Dom Iero going 2-4 with a run and an RBI. They bounced-back nicely with an 8-3 win over Belmont. Joey Havrilak was 2-4 with a home run and 2 RBI in the win. Jon Pusateri gave up 3 hits and 1 walk over 5 scoreless innings. MAC Baseball Weekend Recap (Feb. 20th-22nd)

macAkron (4-2):
The Zips took two-out-of-three in what was supposed to be a four game series that was cut short because of weather. They won the first game 2-1 thanks to a 2-4, 2 RBI performance by Dom Iero. John Valek III gave up 1 ER over 7 innings, while striking out six. They fell 1-0 in the second game, which was cut short to just seven innings. J.T. Brubaker gave up 1 run over 6 innings, allowing just 4 hits. They won game three 5-4. Daulton Mosbarger was 1-3 with 2 runs scored, while Iero collected two more RBI. MAC Weekend Recap (Feb. 13th-15th)

macAkron (2-1)

Akron started off the year with a 7-5 win over Furman. Daulton Mosbarger was 2-4 with 3 RBI. They dropped the second game to Furman 8-7 in 10 innings. Dom Iero went 4-6 at the plate with 2 runs and 3 RBI. They bounced-back to finish off the weekend with a strong 11-3 win. Kris Simonton got it going with three hits, 2 runs and 2 RBI. 2015 MAC Baseball Preview

Despite only losing four conference games and finishing with an overall record of 38-16, the Ball State Cardinals were left out of the postseason last year because they fell to the eventual MAC Conference Champion Kent State in the second round of the tournament. NIU names Mike Kunigonis as Head Coach

NIUBaseball.jpgDeKALB, Ill. – Mike Kunigonis (KOON-uh-GOHN-iss), a veteran Division I coach who has spent the last seven years on the staff at Virginia Tech, most recently as the Hokies’ Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, has been named head coach of the Northern Illinois University baseball program, NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T.
