Matt Duval named Assistant Coach at Siena

Matt Duval has been hired as the new volunteer baseball assistant coach at Siena College. Duval spent the last three years as the recruiting coordinator and hitting coach at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan.

Columbia Regional: Game 3 Recap

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Jacob May scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and delivered a three-run home run in a six-run seventh Saturday as Coastal Carolina beat Manhattan, 11-1, in an elimination game at the Columbia Regional of the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

Columbia Regional: Game 2 Recap

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Colby Holmes took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and South Carolina figured out Manhattan pitcher Taylor Sewitt’s sidearm delivery the third time through the batting order as the Gamecocks beat the Jaspers, 7-0, in front of 7,043 at Carolina Stadium Friday night to complete the first day of the NCAA Columbia Regional.

South Carolina’s second game in the NCAA’s Columbia Regional.

 

Friday’s schedule

No. 3 seed Coastal Carolina (41-17) vs. No. 2 seed Clemson (33-26), Noon, ESPNU

No. 4 seed Manhattan (33-25) vs. No. 1 seed South Carolina (40-17), 4 p.m., ESPNU

It’s the elephant in the room no one wants to deal with – yet.

When the NCAA Selection Committee set up the Columbia Regional the placement of Clemson, Coastal Carolina and South Carolina at the same venue – along with Manhattan – had baseball fans in South Carolina buzzing.

The Clemson-South Carolina rivalry is a 24/7, 365 proposition in the Palmetto State. It’s hard to find a native sports fan that is neutral  about the rivalry – unless that person’s rooting interest is for another state school such as Coastal Carolina.

If a Clemson-South Carolina game does come about, you can expect a sellout crowd of 8,242 – more if the Columbia fire marshal is looking the other way – to have Carolina Stadium rocking.

2012 CBD Mid-Major Poll (May 28th)

Purdue (44-12) ends the 2012 regular season as the #1 Mid-Major. The Boilermakers will make their first NCAA appearance since 1987 and will host (Gary, Indiana) a regional as announced Sunday. Purdue went 3-0 on their way to winning the Big 10 tourney title with a win over Ohio St and two wins over Indiana including a 6-5 win in the title game. Read the rest of this entry »

CBD Mid-Major Poll (May 21st)

TCU (35-17) stays at #1 for the 3rd consecutive week. The Horned Frogs went 3-1 on the week, winning 1-0 at Oklahoma Tuesday and winning 2 of 3 vs San Diego St in MWC play. TCU finished the regular season tied for 1st with New Mexico at 18-6 in the MWC. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 CBD Mid Major Poll (April 30th)

Purdue (34-7) is #1 for the 5th consecutive week. The Boilermakers went 3-1 on week, winning 3-2 at Illinois St on Tuesday and winning 2 of 3 from Michigan St in Big 10 play. Purdue has a 3 ½ game lead in Big 10 and steps out of conference play this weekend for HUGE series at UCLA. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 CBD Mid Major Poll (April 23rd)

Purdue (31-6) remains on top for 4th consecutive week. The Boilermakers won 12-2 at Illinois-Chicago Wednesday before they traveled to Nebraska in the Big 10 series of year to date. Purdue took game 1 Friday 8-5 and Nebraska evened series Saturday with an 8-3 win. Purdue won the series with an 8-3 win of their own on Sunday. With the series win Purdue sits in first place in Big 10, 3 ½ games ahead of Michigan St and Minnesota, at 12-3. According to warrennolan.com Purdue’s RPI is 11 which have them in very good position to host a regional.
