Conference USA has released their recap of the weekend where the conference teams went 11-2 in one run games. Memphis continues their strong start to the season with a three game sweep at the Autozone Classic in Memphis this past weekend. Marshall also picked up a four game sweep over University at Buffalo. Southern Miss also took 2 out of three games from the Ragin Cajuns in one of the better series of the weekend. The full release from C-USA is available here.
Aaron Luna of Rice was named the Player of the Week and Ryan Belanger of Southern Miss was named the Pitcher of the Week for Conference USA. Aaron Luna led Rice by batting .467 (7 for 15) with four RBI’s and six runs scored. Ryan Belanger went eight innings striking out seven and only walking run to pick up a 7-1 Southern Miss victory over a hot hitting Georgia Southern team.

Conference USA has released their weekly notebook about the conference teams. The Memphis Tigers open the season this week with a visit to Mississippi on Tuesday. All other conference teams saw action over the weekend and it can be read about here.
Conference USA has released their Pitcher and Player of the Week for the week ending on February 18th. Brendan Murphy of Marshall was named the Player of the Week after reaching base three times in each of Marshall’s three games this weekend and picking up a slugging percentage of 1.100. Sean Morgan picked up the Pitcher of the week award by allowing one unearned run on Friday against North Florida. He also struck out eleven batters while walking none.
Conference USA has also released their player and pitcher of the week respectively. The pitcher of the week was Ryan Berry of Rice who pitched six shutout innings against Baylor on Saturday while only allowing three hits and a walk. Jimmy Cesario of University of Houston was named the Player of the Week because he went 8-12 last week in four games.
Texas A&M got 4-2 victory over Number 1 ranked Rice to get to a 2-1 mark in the Houston Astros College Classic. Kyle Nicholson provided a lights out finish to the game by holding the Owls scoreless over the last 3.2 innings providing an opportunity for the Aggies to capitalize at the plate. Kelly Stinson provided a key walk and was driven in on a double by Luke Anders with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Stinson was able to make it around the bases from first to get the lead for the Aggies.
The Vanderbilt Commodores were able to complete the sweep of the Houston Astros College Classic this weekend by knocking off Baylor 7-4 on Sunday. Dominic de la Osa was able to break a tie in the fifth inning with a two run single to drive in David Macias and Pedro Alvarez. Mike Minor was able to complete the save by pitching 2.1 innings of shutout baseball.
The Houston Cougars were slammed by the Arizona State Sun Devils on Sunday by a score of 11-1. The Cougars got zero pitching in the game as Wes Musick lasted 2.0 innings while giving up five runs (4 earned) and walking four players. Josh Satow on the other hand for the Sun Devils was marvelous pitching a complete game and only allowing six hits and one run. Ike Davis led the Sun Devils offense by going 2-4 with 3 RBI.
The Houston Astros College Classic will begin today at noon with Vanderbilt facing off against the Number 1 ranked Owls of Rice. This will be a showcase event for David Price of Vandy and Joe Savery of Rice. Wayne Graham decided against pitching Joe Savery against Price which is disappointing because it would have been a showcase pitching match-up. The other teams involved in the tournament are Texas A&M, Arizona State, Houston, and Baylor. The entire tournament can be watched for $14.95 from MLB.

Conference USA has finally posted the last of their season previews by talking about the Southern Miss Golden Eagles today. The Eagles are led by Corky Palmer who is entering his 10th season with the program and has been to the NCAA tournament four straight years. The preview is available here.
