NEW ORLEANS – Tulane baseball head coach Rick Jones, who led the Green Wave baseball program to 12 NCAA appearances and 818 victories over the last 21 years and became one of the most decorated collegiate baseball coaches in the sport, announced his retirement today from the coaching ranks, effective immediately.
“In making this announcement, Tulane is losing one of its coaching icons today,” Tulane Director of Athletics Rick Dickson said. “The standard created by Rick Jones over the last 21 years is exemplary and stands tall not only for Tulane but all of college baseball.” Continue reading
Tulane head coach Rick Jones missed the majority of the 2014 season due to medical issues. The team struggled throughout season going 23-29 which was the first losing season since 1994.

This is it, the final weekend of the regular season for CUSA baseball. The regular season title comes down to Rice and UAB. At 20-7, Rice sits one game ahead of UAB who is 19-8 in conference. Rice swept UAB earlier in the year so they would win any sort of tie-breaker. Southern Miss could tie Rice with three wins this weekend, but Rice holds the head-to-head tie breaker over them as well.
There are only two weeks left in the CUSA regular season and things are heating up atop the standings. As of now Rice sits in first place with 18 wins, but UAB is right behind them with 16, and Southern Miss is hanging in there with 15 wins.
The CUSA season is getting close the end and things are starting to shake up as you would expect with the Rice Owls atop the conference. However, the conference has been balanced and several teams remain in the mix for the regular season crown. Southern Miss (19-15, 8-4)-UAB (23-10, 9-3)
Southern Miss won their weekend series over MTSU last weekend, taking a big jump forward in the CUSA standings, but then they lost to SEC-foe Mississippi State 4-3 during the week. The offense is hitting a mediocre .243, while the pitching staff has a respectable 3.49 ERA. Conor Fisk has come on as of late for Southern Miss and now leads all starters with a 2.21 ERA, and he’s struck out 48 batters in 40.2 innings pitched. Continue reading
