College of Charleston releases 2014 Schedule

CoCStadiumCHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston baseball head coach Monte Lee has released the 2014 schedule.

With games against 2013 College World Series semifinalist North Carolina, two-time national champion South Carolina and 2012 College World Series Cinderella Kent State, the schedule offers a strong blend of challenging competition with traditional rivalries as the Cougars embark on their first season in the Colonial Athletic Association. Northeastern to name Mike Glavine as Head Coach after 2014 Season

GlavineCollege Baseball Daily has learned that Northeastern will promote assistant coach Mike Glavine to Head Coach replacing Neil McPhee as head coach at the end of the 2014 season. Glavine has served as an assistant with the Huskies for the last four years serving as the Recruiting Coordinator while working with the infielders and hitters.

The news will be announced tomorrow at 10am during an athletic department press conference.  Continue reading

James Madison releases 2014 Schedule

SpankyMcFarlandJMU_thumb.jpgHARRISONBURG, Va., – Heading into his 17th season at the helm of the James Madison baseball program, head coach Spanky McFarland believes the 2014 schedule may be the most difficult the Dukes have faced during his tenure. The numbers appear to support that notion.

Among JMU’s 56 games, the Dukes will play 20 against teams that made the 2012 NCAA Regional field. They will play five games against last year’s top 25 of the NCAA RPI, 18 against the top 50 and 34 against the top 100. They will also not play any teams ranked lower than 200 in last year’s final RPI. Continue reading

RALEIGH, N.C. – Using the same recipe its has throughout the 2013 campaign, the William and Mary baseball team received an exceptional pitching performance backed by strong defense and timely hitting to downed No. 23-ranked Ole Miss for the second time in three days, 4-1, in the Sunday elimination game of the Raleigh Regional. With its second NCAA Tournament victory, W&M extends it program-best mark to 39-23, while the Rebels finish the season at 38-24. Continue reading

2013 Charlottesville NCAA Regional Day 3 Recap

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — A three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning erased a 4-3 deficit as the Elon Phoenix eliminated the UNC Wilmington Seahawks from the Charlotteville Regional by a 6-4 score on Sunday afternoon.

The win lifted the maroon and gold to Sunday’s regional final against sixth-ranked Virginia. Elon will need to defeat Virginia on Sunday and again on Monday to advance to the Super Regionals. Continue reading

2013 Chapel Hill NCAA Regional Day 3 Recap

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Senior Corey Keller took his turn at leading No. 23 Florida Atlantic University’s baseball team to a thrilling 6-5 victory over Towson to advance at the Chapel Hill Regional of the NCAA Tournament.

The two teams exchanged the lead three times and were tied twice. Geoff Jimenez was hit by a pitch to start the ninth inning, with the score tied at five. He stole second and moved to third on a deep fly to center field by senior first baseman Mark Nelson. Towson elected to walk Brendon Sanger to get to Keller, who had a homerun earlier in the day. Keller belted a double to left to score the game-winning run. On the day, Keller was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Continue reading

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia – Corey Dick and Matt Keeler collected three hits apiece and UNCW ended the game with a triple play as the Seahawks eliminated Army with a 9-5 win on Saturday at the NCAA Charlottesville Regional at Davenport Field.

BOCA RATON, FL – Florida Atlantic University’s baseball team, ranked No. 23 nationally by Baseball America, used the strong arm Austin Gomber, who moved to 8-4 on the season, and the hot bats of seniors Nathan Pittman and Corey Keller to defeat Canisius 14-6 in Saturday’s elimination game of the Chapel Hill NCAA Tournament. The victory improved FAU’s record to 40-21 on the season, the fourth time in 10 seasons and the first under the direction of Head Coach John McCormack that the Owls have posted at least 40 wins.  Continue reading
