TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama left-hander Miers Quigley threw one less scoreless inning Wednesday night than Southeastern Louisiana used pitchers in leading the Crimson Tide to a 7-0 win at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Quigley (4-1) held the Lions to six singles in seven innings for his fourth win of the season and third straight victory. He added three strikeouts and did not walk a batter in his 90-pitch gem. Continue reading

OC-Register checks in with Dave Serrano

The Orange County Register writer Keith Sharon checks in with Cal-State Fullerton head coach Dave Serrano. Sharon grew up with Serrano in Cerritos CA playing in youth leagues up until high school with him. He talks about how much love that Serrano had for the game based upon how he took a field maintenance job at Cerritos Community College when he had an unpaid assistant coaching job. We now see that Serrano has moved on from the lower levels as he is one of the top college baseball coaches in the country. The full article is available here.

Aggies Outslug Cougars To Take Series Finale

PULLMAN, Wash. – Junior catcher Jake Jefferies had a game-high five hits and drove in three runs, and UC Davis used a season-high 21 hits to overcome a seven-run deficit and defeat Washington State, 13-11, in a nonconference baseball game at Bailey-Brayton Field Sunday afternoon. The Aggie win evened the final series at 2-2.

UCSB Trounces Pacific in Series Finale, 12-2

Stockton, Calif.The UC Santa Barbara offense (21-9, 5-1) powered the Gauchos to a 12-2 win against University of the Pacific (6-22, 1-5) on Sunday at Klein Family Field. UCSB pounded out 12 runs on 16 hits as senior starting pitcher Chuck Huggins (6-1) tamed the Tigers, allowing only two runs in seven innings of work.

The Gauchos scored a run in the first inning to take an early lead that they would never relinquish. Following a pair of singles from Chris Fox and Eric Oliver, left fielder Mike Zuanich singled through the left side, scoring Fox for the first run of the game. The Gauchos first inning run gives them 33 on the year, second only to the fourth inning in which they have scored 35 runs.

Cal State Northridge Completes Sweep of Mustangs, 8-3

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Cal State Northridge swept a Big West Conference baseball series for the first time since 2004, defeating Cal Poly 8-3 Sunday afternoon at Matador Field.

Cal Poly, despite pounding out 13 hits, all singles, has lost four straight, 10 of 12 and falls to 9-17 on the year and 1-5 in Big West games. Cal State Northridge improved to 13-13 overall and 3-3 in conference games.

Bargas Gets Highlanders A Series Win

(April 6, 2008) – UC Riverside used a complete game from Paul Bargas to pick up a 7-1 victory over 9th ranked Long Beach State at the Riverside Sports Complex Sunday afternoon. Carl Uhl and Drew Garcia each recorded three hits for the Highlanders (9-16, 3-3 Big West) who took two of the three games from the Big West Conference pre-season favorites.

Colon, Arbiso Lift Titans to Big Series Win

Irvine, Calif.Christian Colon had three hits including the go-ahead single in the seventh inning Sunday afternoon as No. 25 Cal State Fullerton overcame a 4-0 deficit for a 6-4 Big West Conference victory at No. 5 UC Irvine.

Fullerton won the long-awaited series, 2-1, with its ninth win in 11 games to improve to 18-10 overall and 4-2 in the Big West. UCI fell to 20-5 and 3-3.
