Iowa to name Darin Hendrickson as Head Coach

DarinHendricksonSt.LouisUpdate #2: St. Louis head coach Darin Hendrickson removed his name from consideration on Tuesday as he didn’t believe it was the best opportunity for him and his family.

Update #1: St. Louis and Darin Hendrickson are refuting the report but we have spoken to many sources around the Iowa program that Hendrickson will be named the new coach.

College Baseball Daily has learned from sources close to the situation that Iowa will name Darin Hendrickson as the Hawkeyes head coach. Hendrickson led the Billkens to a 41-21 overall record while going 17-7 in Atlantic 10 play. He brought the squad to the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2013 Atlantic 10 postseason tournament but went 0-2 in the Columbia, SC regional with losses to South Carolina and Clemson. He has a career coaching record of 688-323 in 18 years of coaching on the collegiate level which includes stops at Central Missouri, St. Louis Community College Forest Park, and Fontbonne University. Kent State names Jeff Duncan as Head Coach

JeffDuncanJeff Duncan, former associate head coach at Purdue, was named the new head baseball coach at Kent State on Tuesday, as announced by Kent State Director of Athletics, Joel Nielsen.

“One year removed from the College World Series, this head coaching position was very attractive and it was evident throughout the search,” said Nielsen. “In no particular order, we set out looking for someone that could coach and motivate our current players and incoming class, a dynamic recruiter, a person familiar with successful college baseball in the North, a serious commitment to academics and a good role model. Needless to say, we’re excited to introduce Jeff Duncan to the Kent State community, along with his wife Lauren and son Bryce, and I’m looking forward to building on our success. 2013 CWS: Oregon State 1 Indiana 0

MattBoydFeaturedOMAHA, Neb. – After taking a loss to Mississippi State earlier in the week, Oregon State’s Matt Boyd bounced back to shut out Indiana for the first time this season with a 1-0 win for the Beavers on Wednesday night at TD Ameritrade Park.

OSU improves to 52-12 on the season and 2-1 in the College World Series while Indiana ends its season at 49-16. The Beavers will face a CWS undefeated Mississippi State on Friday at 2 p.m. CT in a win-or-go-home matchup. Continue reading

Penn State’s Robbie Wine resigns

2013 CWS: Mississippi State 5 Indiana 4

MississippiStateTeamMeeting2OMAHA, Neb. – The crowd roared and the Mississippi State dugout exploded as Trey Porter’s eighth inning single plated the go-ahead run to give MSU a 5-4 win over Indiana on Monday night at TD Ameritrade Park.

With the win, Mississippi State improves to 50-18 on the season and 2-0 in the College World Series. The win also gives the Bulldogs a three-day break between its next CWS games. Continue reading
