OU, Nevada, Davidson, Temple, and JMU pick up wins

TAMPA, Fla. — Sophomore Chase Anderson struck out six batters and junior Trey Sperring had three RBIs in Oklahoma’s 6-1 victory on Tuesday over South Florida at Red McEwen field. The win improved the Sooners’ overall record to 16-5 while the Bulls fell to 10-7.

In his fourth start of the year, Anderson delivered his best outing as a Sooner, striking out a season-high six batters. Anderson (2-1), who struggled in his last start allowing four runs in 1 1/3 innings against Washington State, limited the Bulls’ offense on Tuesday to one run off five hits and two walks. Darnell’s 3 HR’s leads South Carolina over CoC

Charleston, S.C. – James Darnell tied a South Carolina single-game record for home runs with three and Kyle Enders and Reese Havens added home runs as well as the Gamecock offense exploded for 19 hits in a 13-1 win over College of Charleston on Tuesday evening at Patriots Point. Carolina improves to 12-5 on the year while the loss drops College of Charleston to 13-7 this season. South Carolina returns home for a non-conference game vs. USC-Upstate on Wednesday evening with first pitch set for 7 pm at Sarge Frye Field. Clemson knocks off Coastal Carolina

Clemson, SC – Doug Hogan’s two homers and five RBIs led Clemson to a 9-6 victory over #21 Coastal Carolina in front of 4,314 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Tuesday. The Tigers (11-6) improved to 37-6 in the series against the Chanticleers (15-3) that dates back to 1986.

Hogan’s two home runs were his fourth and fifth of the season and 18th and 19th of his career. It was the third time in his career he recorded a pair of home runs in a single game. Continue reading Clemson knocks off Coastal Carolina

South Carolina heads to College of Charleston

South Carolina will head to the College of Charleston for mid-week game against the Cougars. The Gamecocks are coming off a weekend series with Vanderbilt which saw them lose two out of three games to the Commodores to drop their record to 11-5 on the year. South Carolina is led by Reese Havens and Justin Smoak. Havens leads the team in with a .382 average while Smoak has a .355 with four homers on the season. Coastal Carolina set to visit Clemson

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will head to Clemson for a mid-week game against the Tigers on Tuesday. The Chanticleers enter the game with a 15-2 record after winning 2 out of three games in the Centex Invitational where they beat Ball State and Michigan while losing to the Wolverines in one game. Clemson comes in with a 10-6 mark after they won the final game of their series with Boston College after losing the first two games. Coastal Carolina will send David Anderson to the mound with his 3-0 mark and a 1.86 ERA. Clemson will send Matt Zoltak to the hill as he is 2-0 with a 6.43 ERA.

Big South Players of the Week for March 10th-16th

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville first baseman Elliott Arrington (Charlotte, N.C.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week, while Coastal Carolina senior Joey Haug (Holt, Mo) has been named New Balance Pitcher of the Week for games played March 10-16, it was announced today by the League office. Indiana State knocks of Charleston 6-3

Brian Jett collected three hits and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning leading Indiana State to a 6-3 win over College of Charleston in college baseball action before 471 at Patriots Point Stadium on Sunday.

Coastal Carolina defeats Michigan

CONWAY, S.C. – A sacrifice fly from freshman Scott Woodward (Markle, Ind./Norwell) in the seventh broke an 9-9 tie and a home run from junior David Sappelt (Saxapahaw, N.C./Southern Alamance) in the eighth gave the 20th-ranked Coastal Carolina University baseball team (15-2) a cushion in its 11-9 win over 25th-ranked Michigan (8-6) March 16. Coastal Carolina handles UNC 11-4

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers exploded for six runs in the first inning off of UNC starter Matt Harvery to cruise to a 11-4 victory over the number 3 ranked Tar Heels. They took advantage of four walks, a hit by pitch, while getting a huge three run double by Chance Gilmore to take control of the game early. Rich Witten had a strong game while going 2-4 with three RBI. The top North Carolina performance in the losing effort was Kyle Seager who went 3-5 with 2 RBI.
