Kansas State releases 2014 Schedule

Texas Tech releases 2014 Schedule

TexasTechStadiumLUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech baseball program and second-year head coach Tim Tadlock released the Red Raiders 56-game schedule for the 2014 season Tuesday morning.

Texas Tech’s schedule is highlighted by 35 home games at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park – its most home games since 2004 – while playing 18 games against seven NCAA Tournament opponents from a year ago and opening the season hosting a four-game series against Indiana, who is coming off its first appearance at the College World Series. Oklahoma names Jamie Pinzino as Pitching Coach

JamiePinzinoBryant_thumb.jpgNORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma head baseball coach Pete Hughes has named Jamie Pinzino as the program’s new assistant baseball and pitching coach. Pinzino, a 12-year veteran in the collegiate ranks and seven-year head coach, comes to Norman after a one-year stint as head coach at William & Mary, preceded by one year as an assistant for the Tribe.

“We are excited about Jamie, Cheryl and baby Henry joining our Sooner family,” stated Hughes. “With Jamie, we have one of the top young head coaches in the country joining our staff.” Continue reading

Baylor releases 2014 Schedule

CoachSmithBaylorWACO, Texas – Baylor baseball announced its 2014 schedule on Tuesday, featuring 54 games and 30 at home. The Bears will face nine 2013 NCAA Tournament participants and its 24 opponents posted a combined 811-586-1 (.580) record last season.

The highly-competitive Baylor 2014 slate also features games against nine conference champions, three NCAA Super Regional participants and only four teams that finished with a record below .500 in 2013. Continue reading

2014 Top 100 Players Countdown: 82. Lukas Schiraldi (Texas)

College Baseball Daily kicks off our countdown to the start of the 2014 College Baseball season by checking in on the top 100 players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today at number 82 with University of Texas RHP Lukas Schiraldi. Before fully committing to the Longhorns staff, Schiraldi pitched at Navarro College where he dominated the Region XIV Athletic Conference in the NJCAA. Son of former Longhorn ace Calvin Schiraldi, Lukas has followed in his father’s footsteps and looks forward to potentially playing as a career. During his sophomore season with the Bulldogs, Schiraldi went 9-2 with a 2.84 ERA. In 76 IP the righty was able to strikeout 67 and quickly became a player to watch.

2014 Top 100 Players Countdown: 85. Dillon Peters (Texas)

College Baseball Daily kicks off our countdown to the start of the 2014 College Baseball season by checking in on the top 100 players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today at number 85 with University of Texas junior LHP Dillon Peters. In his sophomore season with the Longhorns, Peters went 6-3 with a 1.97 ERA; he finished the 2013 season with 86.2 IP and struck out 57 batters in the process. A second team All-Big 12 selection, Peters had an impressive .223 batting average against and during his 14 starts on the mound, the Longhorns were able to go 10-4. On top of his success on the field, Peters also shined in the classroom as he was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll for fall 2012. Continue reading

CBD Visit: Texas vs Texas State Fall Scrimmage Thoughts

TexasFeaturedLast weekend I attended the Texas vs. Texas State fall scrimmage. Texas had played the previous day against Lamar and lost a rain-shortened scrimmage. Texas State, a new member of the Sun Belt conference, travelled 30 miles north to Austin to take on the Longhorns.

Fall games are a little different than the regular season in that the coaches are really trying to see all of the guys play in a game situation, so I saw a Texas lineup that featured 3 designated hitters and a Texas State pitching rotation that featured 12 pitchers in 12 innings. Continue reading

Oklahoma releases 2014 Schedule

OklahomaAction2NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma baseball coach Pete Hughes announced his team’s schedule for the upcoming 2014 season. This season’s schedule features nine games against three teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, including the Bedlam Series, which begins on April 1 in Norman.

The slate is also filled with nine teams in the Top-75 RPI and eight teams with 35 wins or more. An additional eight teams competed in the NCAA Tournament just two seasons ago in 2012. Continue reading
