STARKVILLE, Miss. – Anthony Izzio scattered seven hits and allowed just one run in six innings pitched to lead the second-seeded University of South Alabama baseball team to a 9-4 win over third-seeded Mercer in the opening round of the NCAA Starkville Regional at Dudy Noble Field.

Izzio (4-0) struck out five and issued one walk to earn his fourth consecutive win in as many appearances. It also marked South Alabama’s first NCAA Regional win since 2006. Continue reading

SoCon Adds ETSU, Mercer and VMI

SoConLogoHILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – East Tennessee State University, Mercer University and the Virginia Military Institute have been extended invitations to join the Southern Conference beginning July 1, 2014, SoCon Commissioner John Iamarino announced from the league’s spring meetings Thursday.

ETSU and Mercer have accepted the invitations to join the conference next year, while VMI is expected to formally ratify joining the league Friday when its Board of Visitors meets. Continue reading

This field is stacked and is considered among the toughest regionals in the field of 64. The No. 1 seed Bulldogs have been playing good baseball as of late, but No. 2 seed South Alabama was also in hosting considerations. CBD Column: ETSU off to Strong Start

ETSUFeaturedTony Skole admits that his 2012 East Tennessee State baseball team struggled. But, the Buccaneers have put the previous campaign behind them and boast an 8-3 record thus far in the young 2013 season.

Go back to the year 2011 and the Bucs finished with an RPI ranking of 33 and a 36-21 record. From there, players graduated and holes developed in the rotation and lineup. Continue reading
