Richmond names Tracy Woodson as Head Coach

TracyWoodsonUNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond announced Monday that Tracy Woodson has been named the eighth head coach of the Spider Baseball program.

Woodson, a five-year MLB veteran and World Series Champion, will be introduced at a press conference on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Robins Center. Fans will be able to watch the press conference live for free at RichmondSpiders.com. Continue reading

St. Bonaventure Baseball Player Andrew Revello Passes Away

AndrewRevelloST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — The St. Bonaventure University community is mourning the loss of redshirt junior Andrew Revello, 22, who died Wednesday as the result of injuries sustained in a car accident June 1 in Butler Township, Pa.

A native of Highland Heights, Ohio, Revello was an accounting major and a starting pitcher on St. Bonaventure’s baseball team. Continue reading

Iowa to name Darin Hendrickson as Head Coach

DarinHendricksonSt.LouisUpdate #2: St. Louis head coach Darin Hendrickson removed his name from consideration on Tuesday as he didn’t believe it was the best opportunity for him and his family.

Update #1: St. Louis and Darin Hendrickson are refuting the report but we have spoken to many sources around the Iowa program that Hendrickson will be named the new coach.

College Baseball Daily has learned from sources close to the situation that Iowa will name Darin Hendrickson as the Hawkeyes head coach. Hendrickson led the Billkens to a 41-21 overall record while going 17-7 in Atlantic 10 play. He brought the squad to the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2013 Atlantic 10 postseason tournament but went 0-2 in the Columbia, SC regional with losses to South Carolina and Clemson. He has a career coaching record of 688-323 in 18 years of coaching on the collegiate level which includes stops at Central Missouri, St. Louis Community College Forest Park, and Fontbonne University. Richmond’s Mark McQueen resigns

MattZielinskiRichmond_thumb.jpg NBC12 in Richmond reported on May 20th, that McQueen and a student-athlete got into an altercation in the dugout. The report doesn’t state if it became physical or not. McQueen and assistant coach Tag Montague were suspended for the season ending series against Charlotte. A Richmond spokesman stated to CBD that Charlie Goens will be the acting head coach until a new one is hired and Tag Montague will still be an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator.

Columbia, SC – Steve Wilkerson hit two homers with five RBIs and Daniel Gossett pitched 6.0 effective innings to lead #17 Clemson to a 10-2 win over Saint Louis in the Columbia Regional in front of 5,485 fans at Carolina Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers, who evened their record in the regional at 1-1 and snapped their six-game losing streak, improved to 40-21 on the season. COLUMBIA, S.C. – Catcher Trey Wimmer knocked in a career-high six runs and right-hander Josh Richardson pitched his third complete game of the year, leading the Big South Champion Liberty Flames past the Clemson Tigers, 8-3, in Game 1 of the NCAA Columbia, S.C. Regional at Carolina Stadium.

Wimmer drove in a career-high six runs with two hits, a two-run double and three-run home run to go along with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. Playing in his home state, the Greenwood, S.C., native connected for his fifth round tripper of the year in the sixth inning to give Liberty a five-run cushion at the time. Continue reading

In what seems like a yearly event, South Carolina will play host to their fourth consecutive regional and 15th all-time regional as the No. 1 seed of the Columbia Regional. The Gamecocks will welcome in-state foe No. 2 seed Clemson for the second straight year. South Carolina defeated the Tigers two out of three this season. No. 3 seed Liberty and No. 4 seed Saint Louis round out the regional.
