Maine opens New Batting Facility

ORONO, Maine– The Paul J. Mitchell Batting Pavilion was officially dedicated in a ceremony at the University of Maine on Tuesday, August 21 in front of several hundred people. Construction, which began in May, was recently completed on the indoor batting facility which will be utilized by the Maine baseball team, softball team and the community. Continue reading

Stony Brook extends Matt Senk through 2017

Stony Brook, N.Y. – The contract of Stony Brook University head baseball coach Matt Senk has been extended through the 2017 season, Director of Athletics Jim Fiore announced on Tuesday. The 2012 NCBWA National Coach of the Year and ABCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year, Senk guided the Seawolves on a memorable run to the College World Series in June. Continue reading

2012 NCAA Regionals Preview: Coral Gables

Coral Gables as a host site comes as a surprise to most, if not all of college baseball. The final host spot came down to a few SEC teams and an ACC team in Miami, and the selection committee opted to have a 3rd regional in the state of Florida, with Miami joining Florida State and Florida as host sites. The Coral Gables regional features two teams from Florida, one from New York, and one from Missouri. Joining the University of Miami (FL), are the Knights of Central Florida from Orlando, the Bears of Missouri State, and the American East Champion Seawolves of Stony Brook. It’s been deemed one of the toughest regionals of all 16 host sites, and action of the double-elimination tournament gets under at 2 PM ET on Friday when the #2 seeded UCF Knights face off vs. #3 seed Missouri state. First seeded Miami will then battle the four seed Stony Brook at 7 PM. The winner of the Coral Gables Regional will match up with the winner of the Baton Rouge (LSU) regional. Continue reading

2012 CBD Mid-Major Poll (May 28th)

Purdue (44-12) ends the 2012 regular season as the #1 Mid-Major. The Boilermakers will make their first NCAA appearance since 1987 and will host (Gary, Indiana) a regional as announced Sunday. Purdue went 3-0 on their way to winning the Big 10 tourney title with a win over Ohio St and two wins over Indiana including a 6-5 win in the title game. Continue reading

CBD Mid-Major Poll (May 21st)

TCU (35-17) stays at #1 for the 3rd consecutive week. The Horned Frogs went 3-1 on the week, winning 1-0 at Oklahoma Tuesday and winning 2 of 3 vs San Diego St in MWC play. TCU finished the regular season tied for 1st with New Mexico at 18-6 in the MWC. Continue reading

TCU (29-16) slides up 2 spots to take over #1 for week 12. The Horned Frogs went 3-1 on the week beating Oklahoma 4-3 Tuesday and winning 2 of 3 vs New Mexico in MWC play. TCU and New Mexico are now tied atop the MWC standings at 13-5 and having split their 6 games. Continue reading

2012 CBD Mid Major Poll (April 30th)

Purdue (34-7) is #1 for the 5th consecutive week. The Boilermakers went 3-1 on week, winning 3-2 at Illinois St on Tuesday and winning 2 of 3 from Michigan St in Big 10 play. Purdue has a 3 ½ game lead in Big 10 and steps out of conference play this weekend for HUGE series at UCLA. Continue reading

2012 CBD Mid Major Poll (April 23rd)

Purdue (31-6) remains on top for 4th consecutive week. The Boilermakers won 12-2 at Illinois-Chicago Wednesday before they traveled to Nebraska in the Big 10 series of year to date. Purdue took game 1 Friday 8-5 and Nebraska evened series Saturday with an 8-3 win. Purdue won the series with an 8-3 win of their own on Sunday. With the series win Purdue sits in first place in Big 10, 3 ½ games ahead of Michigan St and Minnesota, at 12-3. According to warrennolan.com Purdue’s RPI is 11 which have them in very good position to host a regional. They can add to that resume in the next 2 weeks when they host Michigan St and then travel to UCLA for 3 game series May 5th-6th. Continue reading
