Tallahassee, Fla. – Second-ranked Florida State (32-3) captured its first regular season series victory over intra-state rival and No. 24 Florida (24-13) since 2005 with a 4-2 win Tuesday night. A new Dick Howser Stadium crowd of 6,737 were on hand to see senior Ryan Strauss pick up his second straight win over the Gators this year while throwing his first career complete game.

“Florida State, Florida is enough said,” added head coach Mike Martin on taking the season series from the Gators. “Florida has a great ball club and we were very fortunate to win. We executed very well offensively and you have to give Florida credit. They kept the ball game close throughout by making some very good pitching decisions.” Continue reading

Hempstead, NY- Justin Wood pitched a complete game, allowing only four hits and striking out six to lead James Madison past Hofstra in game two of a Colonial Athletic Association series Saturday afternoon. Trevor Knight had two RBI for the Dukes while Matt Prokopowicz contributed a single and a run scored for the Pride. Hofstra falls to 8-18 (0-11 CAA) while James Madison improves to (18-7, 11-3 CAA). CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Freshman catcher Yasmani Grandal drove in the game-winning run after junior Dave DiNatale hit a two-run game-tying single in the bottom of the eighth as No. 2 Miami rallied to defeat Bethune-Cookman, 7-6, Wednesday night at Mark Light Field. Junior right-hander Carlos Gutierrez tossed the final inning to record his fifth save for the Hurricanes, who improved to 19-2 on the season. Continue reading

Michael Kohn broke a ninth inning tie with an RBI double and Brandon Sizemore homered and collected four hits lifting the College of Charleston to an 8-6 win at Davidson and a sweep of its three-game Southern Conference baseball series at Wilson Field on Sunday. Continue reading

KINGSTON, RI (3/22/08) – Temple scored seven runs in the fourth inning and won for the fourth straight game with a 9-6 victory over Rhode Island on Saturday at Bill Beck Field. Junior Kyle Obal (Derwood, MD / Sherwood) had four hits and two RBI, while freshman Byron McKoy (Charlotte, NC / Independence) was a triple away from the cycle and had three hits. Junior Matt Mongiardini (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) improved to 4-0 with six innings on the mound and senior Arshwin Asjes (Willemstad, Curacao / Cheverus-ME) pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save. CARY, N.C. – Freshman right-hander Patrick Johnson and three relievers combined on a two-hit shutout to pitch No. 3 North Carolina past Princeton, 7-0, Wednesday at Cary’s USA Baseball National Training Complex. Maine suprises Ohio State

FROM OHIO STATE PRESS RELEASE
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Maine starting pitcher Joe Miller pitched 8.0 strong innings and the Black Bears capitalized on Ohio State miscues to score an 8-7 victory over the Buckeyes at the Santaluces Sports Complex. The win stopped a three-game losing streak for Maine and extended an Ohio State streak to three consecutive defeats. Maine is now 5-6 on the year and the Buckeyes are 4-4.

Miller picked up the win to go 2-0 on the season. He gave up six runs, four of them earned, but got enough help at the plate from his teammates to gain the win. Continue reading
