Voting under way for 6th College Baseball Hall of Fame Class

LUBBOCK, Texas – The College Baseball Foundation announced today that voting is now under way for the 2011 class of the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in Lubbock. The ballot to select this year’s inductees features 36 players and 17 coaches.

“Each class comes with a unique flavor,” said Mike Gustafson, executive director of the College Baseball Hall of Fame. “We’ve had certain classes dominated by pitchers while other classes were dominated by hitters. As always, I’m looking forward to seeing the new group.” Continue reading

Rice’s Anthony Rendon wins 2010 Dick Howser Award

DickHowserAwardPhoto LUBBOCK, Texas – Rice sophomore third baseman Anthony Rendon is the recipient of the 24th annual Dick Howser Trophy as college baseball’s player of the year. The presentation was made Friday evening in Lubbock, Texas as part of the festivities to recognize and induct the College Baseball Hall of Fame and the awarding of several other national honors for 2010.

Rendon is just the second player in Conference USA history to be named Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. He picked up that honor again this year while leading the Owls to the regular season league championship and the school’s 16th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. The two-time first team All-CUSA selection was named to the C-USA Championship All-Tournament team and was named the Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA Austin Regional. The Houston native was also named the Male Athlete of the Year for all sports in Conference USA.

College Baseball HOF Class Announced

CBBHOF LUBBOCK, Texas — Once again the National College Baseball Hall of Fame induction class made history in 2010 with the inclusion of the first coach from a two-year institution.

Wally Kincaid, who coached at Cerritos College from 1958 to 1977 and from 1979 to 1980, is one of 10 men who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 1 as part of a week of celebrations recognizing the past and present greats of college baseball.

“We are very pleased that coach Kincaid will be a part of this year’s Hall of Fame class,” said Mike Gustafson, Hall of Fame chairman and executive director of the College Baseball Foundation. “Last year we had our first small-school inductee and with a two-year college representative this year we take another step toward fully representing all levels of college baseball in the Hall of Fame.”
