2014 Nashville Regional Preview

The teams
No. 1 seed Vanderbilt (41-18). 2. Oregon (42-18). 3. Clemson (36-23). 4. Xavier (29-27)

  • Vanderbilt is making its 13th NCAA appearance, including its ninth straight under coach Tim Corbin’s direction.
  • Oregon is making its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance, including third straight.
  • Clemson is making its 39th NCAA appearance – fifth-most all-time. The Tigers have been in the tournament 27 of the last 28 seasons.
  • Xavier is making the second appearance in program history. The other time was in 2009 as the Atlantic 10 Conference champion.

SoCal Roundup: Fullerton & UCLA Walk-Off

After dropping their first game of the season, Southern California’s top ranked squads, No. 1 Cal State Fullerton and No. 9 UCLA, both bounced back with dramatic victories to ensure a series win.

It was a strong day in the Southland as 10 of the 11 SoCal teams in action scored victories. Long Beach State’s series sweep at the hands of No. 10 Vanderbilt and “one of the best pitching staffs I’ve ever seen,” according to Dirtbags’ head coach Troy Buckley, was the only blemish. SoCal Roundup: No. 1 Fullerton Upended

It only took until Day Two for the list of undefeated Southern California teams to trim to just one (not including UC Santa Barbara, who has yet to play).

But the team with a still unblemished record is not No. 1 Cal State Fullerton or fellow top 10 squad, UCLA. Instead it is the USC Trojans, who have needed 26 innings to determine a pair of games with Northwestern.

USC isn’t the only team playing extra baseball early on. Five of the SoCal games went into extra innings this afternoon.

Washington State 9, #1 Cal State Fullerton 7 (11 innings)

2014 Big East Preseason Conference Poll

BigEastLogoNEW YORK, N.Y. – Creighton, one of three conference newcomers this season, is the narrow favorite in BIG EAST baseball in 2014, according to the coaches poll announced on Thursday. The Bluejays claimed a poll-topping 32 points with two first-place votes, edging out Seton Hall and St. John’s for No. 1.

There was more good news for Creighton, as a league-high four players earned Preseason All-BIG EAST honors. Among them were senior outfielder Mike Gerber, who was named the Preseason Player of the Year, and sophomore hurler Tommy Strunc, who picked up Preseason Pitcher of the Year accolades. Georgetown releases 2014 Schedule

PeteWikGeorgetownWASHINGTON – Head Coach Pete Wilk and the Georgetown University baseball team have announced the schedule for the upcoming 2014 season. The Hoyas will play close to 50 games this spring, including 19 home games at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md.

St. John’s releases 2014 Schedule

The schedule features 27 home games, trips to nine different states and a total of 21 games against teams that have made at least one NCAA Tournament appearance in the past three seasons, including four matchups against 2013 NCAA Tournament squads. Villanova releases 2014 Schedule

This day allows all of the players to showcase their talents in front of Major League scouts and try to open a few eyes in the process.
