In three years, Sean Newcomb has done a lot for the Hartford baseball program.
His pitching perfection started earlier this season with a 0.00 ERA through his first six starts. This has brought on intense media attention while having MLB scouts to campus to the Hawks’ (18-14 overall, 6-2 America East) games, giving the program a boost in attention and his teammates who had not yet reached scouts’ radars a chance to grab their eye. William & Mary junior infielder Michael Katz was named National Hitter of the Week, while Stony Brook’s senior right-handed pitcher Frankie Vanderka was named National Pitcher of the Week. That’s how Cal State Northridge first-year head coach Greg Moore summed up the Matadors’ 1-0 victory over Stony Brook. The Wednesday afternoon affair at Matador Field featured only eight combined hits and a walk-off walk.

We continue the countdown today with number 76, Binghamton pitcher Mike Urbanski. In his sophomore season with the Bearcats, Urbanski made 16 relief appearances and finished with a 2-1 record. In 19 innings, the 6’4” right- hander gave up only 17 hits and struck out 16 batters, while posting a 4.74 ERA. The 2013 Bearcats staff was far from perfect but did show signs of promise down the stretch as they won the America East Conference Tournament.
