South Carolina edges Florida 2-1 in Game 1 of CWS Championship Series

OMAHA, Neb. – In a thrilling game one of the 2011 College World Series finals, South Carolina edged Florida, 2-1, using a stolen base and a two errors by the Gators in the top of the 11th to claim its 15th-straight NCAA tournament win Monday night at TD Ameritrade Park.

The Gamecocks, who trailed 1-0 through the first seven innings of the contest, plated an eighth-inning run to knot the game at 1-1 and used key defensive plays in the ninth and 10th to stay alive for their 11th-inning game-winning run. Continue reading


2011 CWS Championship Series Preview: Florida vs South Carolina

The Florida Gators and South Carolina Gamecocks will face off in the 2011 College World Series Championship Series (best of three) starting tomorrow in Omaha, Nebraska. Both teams swept through the opening round of the College World Series with identical 3-0 records. The Gators picked up a victory over Texas by a score of 8-4 before defeating Vanderbilt 3-1 and 6-4 to got to the Championship round. The Gamecocks on the other hand grabbed a 5-4 win over Texas A&M before winning over Virginia twice by scores of 7-1 and 3-2 in 13 innings.  Continue reading


South Carolina defeats UVA 3-2 to Advance to Championship Series

OMAHA, Neb. –South Carolina used two Virginia errors in the 13th inning to plate the game-winning run in a thrilling 3-2 victory Tuesday night at the 2011 Men’s College World Series at TD Ameritrade Park. The game was played before a TD Ameritrade Park Omaha record crowd of 25,882.

The defending champion Gamecocks (53-14) advance to their second MCWS finals and will face the Florida Gators (53-17) in a best-of-three series beginning Monday at 8 p.m. ET. No. 1 national seed Virginia finishes its season at 56-12. Continue reading


CWS Game 10: Virginia ends Cal season with 8-1 win

OMAHA, Neb. – The Virginia Cavaliers used a strong start from Tyler Wilson and plenty of offense en route to an 8-1 victory over the California Bears in an elimination contest at the 2011 Men’s College World Series Thursday night at TD Ameritrade Park.

Virginia (56-11) also defeated Cal (38-23) in the opening round on Sunday, the first-ever meeting between the two schools, and by advancing have recorded their best MCWS showing in program history. In 11 total appearances, this is the first time the Cavaliers have been included in the final four teams vying for a championship spot. Continue reading


Taylor Jungmann wins 2011 Dick Howser Award

OMAHA, Neb. – Texas junior pitcher Taylor Jungmann is the recipient of the 25th annual Dick Howser Trophy, presented by Easton Foundations, as college baseball’s player of the year. The presentation was made Tuesday morning as part of a news conference at TD Ameritrade Park, with several other 2011 national honors being awarded as well.

The 25th anniversary of the Dick Howser Trophy presented by Easton Foundations was even more special by the awarding of this year’s honor at TD Ameritrade Stadium in downtown Omaha, the new home of the College World Series. Continue reading
