Bubba Starling’s career with the Nebraska Cornhuskers on the football field is on hold right now according to Huskers head football coach Bo Pelini in the Omaha-World Herald. Starling was selected by Kansas City Royals with the fifth overall pick and is being advised by Scott Boras. If he does not sign with the Royals, Starling will get back on the practice field with the Nebraska football program and will not be able to sign with a MLB team until the 2014 MLB Draft.  Continue reading

The MLB Signing Deadline is fast approaching as all teams have till midnight on August 15th to sign their prospects or they will head to college. Here is the latest news and notes from around the country.

Clemson signee Daniel Norris,  out Johnson City, TN and Science Hill High School was in Dunedin, Florida to have his physical according to a tweet from Keith Law on Friday afternoon. Norris was selected with the 74th overall pick but was widely considered to be the top lefthanded arm in the 2011 MLB Draft. If the news is true about him being in Dunedin for a physical, it would mean that the Blue Jays have started to seriously consider signing him and a deal could be coming soon.  Continue reading

The MLB Signing Deadline is fast approaching as all teams have to midnight on August 15th to sign their prospects or they will head to college. Here is the latest news and notes from around the country.

Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reported that Red Sox first round pick and 26th overall selection Blake Swihart took batting practice on Thursday afternoon at Fenway Park. Swihart is currently committed to Texas where he will play for Augie Garrido. If I had to guess right now, I would expect the Red Sox to sign Swihart for over the $1.2 million due to him with the slotting system.  Continue reading

UConn’s Springer looking to play Independent Baseball?

MLBTradeRumors.com reports that Houston Astros first round pick George Springer met with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League on Saturday. Springer was selected with the 11th overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft after an outstanding career at UConn where he led the Huskies to an appearance in the Super Regionals. He hit .343 with 12 homers and driving in 77 runs on the year.  Continue reading

UConn’s John Andreoli having success in Cape Cod League

Heading into the 2011 season, the real talk around the UConn program was the fact they had two absolute studs in George Springer and Matt Barnes. Both of these young men went in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft to the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox respectively. The rest of the Huskies squad was extremely talented including outfielder John Andreoli. He ended up finishing the year with a .317 average with 31 RBI as he started all 66 games for the Huskies. In the 2011 MLB Draft, the Cubs selected him in the 17th round.  Continue reading
