Texas travels north to take on Nebraska for the final time as conference opponents. The Longhorns took a pair from the Sooners last weekend, giving them an important boost in the standings, and setting up a possible winner-take-all showdown against Texas A&M to close out the regular season. Taylor Jungmann is one of the best overall players in the nation, and Cole Green has steadied after a rough start. The Longhorns are still looking for a third starter to pick up the slack. The ACC has a slow week with only four teams facing off in conference play as most of the teams are in the midst of finals. The two series are with North Carolina hosting Maryland and Boston College heading down to Wake Forest.
The out of conference series sees Central Florida visiting Florida State, Gardner-Webb and Clemson facing off in a home and home series, Georgia Tech heading on the road for a rare three game series at Illinois-Chicago, Miami (FL) hosting Hofstra, East Tennessee State at NC State, and James Madison at Virginia Tech. The SEC enters crunch time in the conference race this week with each team having three conference series left on the year. Leading the SEC East is South Carolina and Vanderbilt with identical 17-4 records. Florida is one game behind them at 17-5 after a 4-3 defeat to Arkansas in the SEC Thursday Night Game of the Week. Georgia would be leading the SEC West but they are in the Eastern Division so they are in fourth place at 13-8. Rounding out the Eastern Division is Tennessee at 5-16 while Kentucky is 4-17. With three weeks left in the season, Southern Miss sits atop the Conference USA standings with a two game lead over the rest of the pack. Houston has rebounded from a sub-par start to the season to amass a 9-6 conference record, tying them for second with cross-town rival Rice—whom they play this weekend. Memphis and UAB are tied for third at 9-9. Nationally, Southern Miss cracks the top 20 for the first time this season at #19, while Rice moves up one spot to #21. The SEC Series of the Week kicks off tonight with the Florida Gators heading to Arkansas for a three game series that starts tonight. The Gators enter the series with a 35-10 overall record while being 17-4 in conference play. Arkansas is 30-13 while being under .500 in conference play at 10-11. The Big 12 race is coming down to the final weeks, and the matchups are getting more and more important. This week, the key series takes place in Austin between Texas and Oklahoma. Both teams are highly ranked, and feature plus pitching staffs. Saturday and Sunday games will be televised, but the key matchup will take place between Taylor Jungmann and Michael Rocha on Friday.
Oklahoma State faces off against Big 12 stalwart Kansas State. The Wildcats are coming off a sweep of Texas Tech, while the Cowboys were swept at Texas A&M. We start to wind down the 2011 ACC schedule this weekend with the Virginia Cavaliers leading the Coastal Division while Florida State leads the Atlantic. The Cavaliers have a lead of one game in the Coastal Division over Georgia Tech with a 18-3 conference record. Miami is in third place at 15-5 while North Carolina is fourth with a 13-8 record. Virginia Tech comes in fifth at 7-14 while Duke is 4-14 to round out the division. The Atlantic Division is being led by the Florida State Seminoles who are 14-7 which gives them a three game lead over second place Clemson who is 11-10. NC State is in third place at 9-12 while Wake Forest is fourth at 7-14. Boston College is fifth at 6-14 while Maryland rounds out the division at 4-17.
