The final week of Big West play has 5 games set for action, with all 9 teams active. The Highlanders will travel up to Davis to take on the Aggies. Long Beach State heads over to UC Irvine to take on the Anteaters. Fullerton is back in action and taking on last place Northridge. Pacific travels to Santa Barbara to take on the Gauchos. Boasting a program best 41 wins this season, Stony Brook will look to defend their America East Baseball Championship as play in the conference tournament begins late Wednesday morning.
The tournament will open with match ups that look quite familiar to the teams involved, as they are all rematches of last weekends season ending series. Regular season champion Stony Brook (41-10 overall, 22-2 America East) will face fourth seeded Albany (19-29, 11-11) at 3pm. The Seawolves swept the Great Danes in their four game series this past weekend, amassing 29 runs and holding Albany to a mere eight. America East Pitcher of the Year Nick Tropeano carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning in the series’ first game, and has a program record 11 wins this season. Team with something to prove – As the ACC Tournament opens Virginia is considered virtually a lock for a top-8 national seed. But following a sweep in Chapel Hill last week and an OK performance against Miami the previous weekend, there are some doubters. The SEC Baseball Tournament kicks off today with all eight teams in action in the beginning of the double elimination tournament. Year in and year out the SEC conference tournament is regarded as the toughest championship to win with the caliber of schools playing in the conference. We enter the last weekend of action in SEC play as we see a three team tie in the top of the SEC Eastern Division while all six teams in the SEC Western Division are within two games of the division lead. The Eastern Division tie sees Florida, South Carolina and Vanderbilt all tied with 20-7 conference records with South Carolina winning two out of three games against Florida and Vanderbilt. Florida defeated Vanderbilt this past weekend in two out of three games. The Western Division sees a four way tie at the top of the division at 13-14 between Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi State, and Auburn. The ACC enters the tenth and final weekend of conference play this week. The Virginia Cavaliers lead the ACC Coastal Division by two games over second place Georgia Tech. UVA will visit North Carolina to try to wrap up the conference title while Georgia Tech visits Virginia Tech. The Atlantic Division is led by the Florida State Seminoles with a 18-9 conference record as they have a three game led over second place Clemson. The two squads will face off this weekend to determine the division winner. The other conference matchups see Duke visiting Miami (FL), NC State at Boston College, and Wake Forest at Maryland. PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seven teams are fighting for five remaining spots in the BIG EAST Championship as only three teams have assured themselves of postseason appearances. Connecticut is the only team that knows its fate, as the Huskies clinched their first outright BIG EAST title last week and will be the No. 1 seed at the BIG EAST Championship. Pittsburgh and St. John’s also have punched tickets to the championship. Seton Hall and USF begin the weekend tied for the eighth and final tournament spot, with USF holding the tiebreaker over the Pirates. USF hosts Pittsburgh and Seton Hall hosts Georgetown this weekend. Notre Dame and Louisville battle in an important three-game set, with the final two games of the series televised on the CBS Sports Network. All of the BIG EAST series will begin on Thursday, with Saturday being the final day of regular-season play. The SEC enters their second to last weekend of conference play with all four ranked squads facing off against each other. The marquee series is between #6 ranked Florida and #1 ranked Vanderbilt. The other ranked series sees #16 ranked Arkansas visiting #3 South Carolina. The Thursday-Saturday series this week features Ole Miss hosting Mississippi State. The Bulldogs took a tight 7-6 game on Thursday night to start the series off with a key win. The other matchups see Alabama visiting Auburn, Georgia at Kentucky, and Tennessee at LSU. The ACC enters their second to last weekend of action with two series matching up ranked squads with #24 Miami heading to #2 ranked Virginia and #11 North Carolina going to #15 Georgia Tech. The two other ranked teams in action are #7 Florida State at NC State and #13 ranked Clemson at Virginia Tech. The only ACC matchup between two unranked teams is Wake Forest at Duke. The Big West is in full swing with only a few weekends left. All nine teams are in action with four conference match-ups taking the field and another team playing out of conference. Long Beach travels to Fullerton for a tough match-up, UC Davis travels south to Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara hosts the Anteaters of Irvine and Riverside will be in Northridge.
