CBD Journal with Western Illinois (March 22nd)

After a rough start to the season, the leathernecks have seemed to have found a little groove. We have been through some rough games, some that we should have won hands down and some that we could have taken. All season it seemed that we have been looking for someone to step up and take it upon themselves to pull our team out of this slump. This past weekend we had a number of players step to the plate and take that role. It seemed that when these players stepped up, the rest of our team followed. Our record is not a reflection of the talent that we have and I still think that we are going to surprise some teams. Continue reading CBD Journal with Western Illinois (March 22nd)

First things first—a huge thanks goes out to Anthony Gomez for writing last week’s blog for me. I came down with a little case of Spring Break Senioritis (watch out, its contagious), and from some of the feedback we received, he about put me out of a job. However, I think I’ll be able to make it through the rest of the season. Continue reading CBD Journal with Drew Fann (March 15th)

Hello again. Hope everyone’s season is off to a good start. We have just gotten back from our spring trip with a ton of positives and some negatives including my Kenny Powers Oakley Sunglass tan. The weather was great down in the Fort Pierce area it was in the 80’s which was great for my golf game and even better for us northerners to get a chance and be outside again to play some baseball. The first 2 games of the series weren’t the best, but after digging into ourselves we came into the third game against Indiana State with some fire. After Indiana State made the initial push by ISU, we immediately shoved them right back and out came the Purple Army. Dan Russell pitched absolutely amazing, fighting not only the batters but the cold temperatures as well. Tom Lilja added another home run to his stats, and John Koszulinski came through big time with 5 RBI’s on the game. Everything came together and showed what the Leathernecks are all about, and also how dangerous we can be on both defense and offense. We just now need to keep that fire burning and keep shoving back, and build upon that win and carry it over to our next game and so on. This week is Spring Break at Vandy, so I figured there is no better time to have a guest blogger—and somehow, Anthony Gomez talked me into letting him do it. “Go-Go” Gomez is a sophomore infielder from Nutley, New Jersey. Even though he is one of my best friends, I still feel the need to apologize for whatever Jersey Shore fist-pumping he may put into it. At the very least, his blog will be full of swag, because no one has more of it than Ant. Continue reading CBD Journal with Drew Fann (March 8th)

Even though it was a rough weekend for the Leathernecks at Kansas State, we are starting to see some improvements in certain areas. Tom Lilja ignited the offense with two homeruns in two games, and Ryan Cowhey also added a 3-run shot of his own. Just because the win/loss column is not how we would like it at this point of the season, we are confident that our pitching performances will remain steady and our bats will start to come alive. Anyone who was able to make it to Hawkins Field last weekend was greeted with three great college baseball games. The atmosphere on Saturday was phenomenal, and compares very favorably to a NCAA Regional site. The Stanford Cardinal are a very talented baseball team, and have a great chance of making the College World Series at the end of the year. Kenny Diekroeger and Stephen Piscotty are as good of a left side of the infield as there is in college baseball this year, and they are very well coached. Sometimes you have to just stop thinking and play ball. A 1-6 start is not where we saw ourselves after the first 7 games, but you can’t control the past. We just need to continue progressing as the season moves forward. Sunday was a good start. We had a hell of a pitching performance from Dan Russell, who was called upon to get the start after working out of the bullpen earlier in the series. He gave a shot of energy to a team that needed it and all of a sudden we were finally playing baseball like we should. Hopefully we can relax and play ball now that the first win is out of the way after beating Georgia State 8-2. All we can do is take each game one at a time, play hard for the full 9 innings, and see what the results are at the end. If we can continue to progress and play with the same intensity as we did on Sunday, we will be a very good team. Continue reading CBD Journal with Western Illinois (March 1st)

Hello everyone. Finally after months of indoor practices the 2011 Post University Eagles were able to play on an actual field and not a gym floor. We opened up our season in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at the Cal Ripken Experience Complex for the North East Challenge. This was our second year headed to this event and it gets better every year. The complex has three all turf fields and are replicas of old major league ball parks. Continue reading CBD Journal with Ray Ricker (March 1st)

CBD Journal with Drew Fann (Feb. 22nd)

There are times in the off-season when baseball players become frustrated with the long workouts and conditioning because the season seems so far away. Yet when we lace up our cleats and step on the field on opening day, we remember the reason we endure the long winters. All of the determination and effort pays off by knowing we are prepared to succeed throughout the season. Last Friday in San Diego, my teammates and I shared this feeling, and we couldn’t have been more excited to begin the season. Continue reading CBD Journal with Drew Fann (Feb. 22nd)
