CBB Regional Projections (April 1st)

The College Baseball Blog continues our weekly countdown to the release of the 2010 NCAA Regional Brackets. The brackets are done as if the NCAA Tournament was set to start today. I ended up using Boyd’s World RPI which was updated through games on Tuesday as that was the latest available. The RPI changes dramatically every week especially before some of the schools start the conference campaign. You can check out the full bracket below which is our best estimate right now. It has already been pointed out on this site at length, but this weekend reinforced the mediocrity of the teams in California. Only UC Irvine and UCLA have played well enough to host a regional and the bracket reflects that. If teams like Cal State Fullerton and San Diego don’t start to pick up the pieces, the committee will have their hands full with trying to accommodate for travel and avoiding seeding teams from the same conference in a regional together…trust me, it was hard enough this week. CBB Column: NCAA Regional Projections (March 11th)

I have to start with an apology for last week. Last week’s bracket has several large omissions, including the inexcusable absence of Arizona State from the initial bracket. I have revamped my efforts and hopefully come up with a set formula to avoid mistakes like last week. Hopefully this week there will be less comments pointing out faults, and more discussing the merits of the teams in the field of 64. CWS games to start later

RosenblattStadium The Omaha-Herald reports that ESPN has pushed back the start times of the College World Series as the World Cup will be going on at the same time. The weekday opening games will now begin at 3:30pm in Omaha while the night games will start at 8pm. This is an interesting development as the East Coast will see the night games start at 9pm and will not bring in high ratings.

And you thought last week featured some marquee match-ups…

There were the showcase tournaments like the Big East/Big Ten Challenge, Baseball at the Beach, Dodgertown Classic, and the Rice Invitational. Then there were premier out-of-conference match-ups like Texas v. Stanford and East Carolina v. South Carolina. I have to say I grew up in the right era for college baseball. Fan, scouts, and scribes were spread out across the country and they were treated to some fantastic baseball.

The season is now one week old and while its still very early to be jumping to any rash conclusions, there was a lot of moving and shaking in the brackets. Instead of boring you all with long sentences strung together to form paragraphs, I thought it might be fun to introduce my new way of unveiling the brackets called “7 things we learned”.

CBB 2010 Preseason Regional Projections

NCAARegionalProjections Although the season has yet to begin, it is never too early to begin speculating about which 64 teams will make it to Regionals and potentially Omaha. Keep in mind nobody has played any games yet All of this is based on preseason expectations, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to do for discussion.

Feel free to email me if I am blatantly off the mark or if any team is missing. Just be gentle, after all, this is the best time of the year.
