Kyle Long will not be suiting up for FSU in 09

Freshman left handed pitcher Kyle Long (son of NFL Hall of Famer Howie Long and brother of NFL player Chris Long) has withdrawn from Florida State University after falling behind academically. Long was also a highly touted offensive lineman out of high school but decided to stick to baseball only with his imposing 6’7 and 280 pound frame. He had a .500 batting average with two homers and 24 stolen bases while posting an ERA of 1.91 with 95 strikeouts in 50 innings at St. Anne’s Belfield High School. He was named the 2008 All-Central Virginia Player of the Year. This is a huge loss for the Seminoles as Long was expected to make an immediate impact as on the mound for the Noles. We should see how this impacts the race for the ACC Title in 2009. Continue reading

Louisville’s Keith Landers Video

I attended one of Keith Landers of St. Peter Marian High School in Worcester MA when he took on Westboro High School. We were able to check out his pitching style which was impressive for a 6’6 lefthander from Massachusetts. He ended up featuring a 89-91 MPH fastball with a decent curveball that he could not control during the start we saw him. He ended up being drafted in the 18th round by the Baltimore Orioles but decided to attend the University of Louisville where he will be a freshman during the upcoming season. We have two videos of him available after the jump. Continue reading
