Kendall Rogers of Rivals.com checks in today with two articles. The first article is about Cal State-Bakersfield’s new program. Bill Kernan has been put in charge of the program which is his first job in 13 years. He previously served as Cal-State Northridge’s head coach from 1989-1995 where he went 240-154-3 record. After the 1995 season, he resigned to take up play writing at Columbia University. He has since had seven plays produced. Kendall also starts up his Top 25 countdown with Number 25 Oklahoma Sooners. They are coming off a 36-26 record but a disappointing 9-17 record in the Big 12. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper has put out their 2009 Preseason Division 3 Poll. It is led by Cortland State from the SUNYAC. They finished last season with a 42-5 record and an appearance in the Division 3 College World Series. They also had a school record 38 game winning streak under 10th year head coach Joe Brown. Chapman CA (40-5), Adrian MI (36-13), Kean NJ (39-11), and Southern Maine (36-14) round out the top five. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper has put out their Preseason Division 2 Poll. They have defending national champion Mount Olive (58-6) in the top spot. They are followed by the Tampa Spartans (42-11-1) who made the Division 2 College World Series last year before being eliminated by Ouachita Baptist. Tampa won the Division 2 title in 2006 and 2007. The rest of the top five is rounded out by Central Missouri (47-17), UC San Diego (43-18), and Columbus State. Continue reading

TUCSON, Ariz. — Louisiana State University has been ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s Fabulous 40 pre-season NCAA Division I baseball poll.
