2009 NCBWA/D3baseball.com Top 25 (March 31st)

MINNEAPOLIS – The D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 25 poll was released Tuesday and Salisbury University dropped four spots to No. 6. Salisbury is ranked No. 19 in the American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III poll, with the next poll slated to be released on April 7.

Feb. 23 NCBWA Division I Baseball Poll

NCBWA LogoDALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 12th year with its 2009 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will be circulated from Feb. 23-June 25 following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.

The poll voters come from 30 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. This week’s poll has representation by 12 different conferences among the 302 baseball-playing schools in the 2009 NCAA Division I ranks. Dustin Ackley and North Carolina leads our Top 25

The College Baseball Blog asked a few of our writers to put together a Top 25 for the upcoming season a few weeks back. When the results came together, the North Carolina Tar Heels came out on top with LSU in the second spot. The rest of the top five is filled out by Georgia, Stanford, and Rice. The San Diego Toreros come in at the sixth spot even though they lost ace pitcher Brian Matusz. FSU Seminoles are the 7th team in countdown will be replacing All-American catcher Buster Posey who won several national awards last season. Texas A&M are 8th in the countdown as we have a few more questions about the Aggies pitching staff then Baseball America believes as BA has them number 1 in their countdown. The Baylor Bears are ninth in the countdown as their outstanding recruiting class is now juniors. The top ten is finished with Ole Miss who will have Jordan Henry and Scott Bittle looking to carry the Rebels to the College World Series. You can check out the rest of the top 25 below. Tampa Ranked No. 1 In NCAA Division II Poll

In the College Baseball Newspaper Poll, Ouachita began the season ranked ninth, but jumped four spots to No. 5. Tampa (3-0) jumped a spot to claim the top spot as UC San Diego (2-0) is second and Cal State Chico (3-1) third, while Emporia State (0-0) is fourth.

West Alabama (5-1) and North Alabama (7-2) are 12th and 13th, respectively, while Delta State (2-2) is 16th. South Arkansas (5-3) dropped six spots to 19th to round out the Gulf South Conference schools.

LSU leads USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll

The LSU Tigers are the top ranked team in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll that was released today. LSU recieved 14 out of the 30 first place votes. The Tigers made the College World Series before being eliminated by North Carolina. The Tar Heels are the number 2 team in the country after going 54-14 last season while competing in the College World Series. They received 12 first place votes from the coaches. The Rice Owls are ranked third in the poll receiving a single first place vote. The Georgia Bulldogs are in the fourth spot while the Texas A&M Aggies received two first place votes while being voted fifth. The Stanford Cardinal picked up the only other first place vote as they came in sixth. Continue reading
