The Gamecocks have moved up to No. 3 in the NCBWA poll and have a great chance at remaining undefeated with a weekend home series with Brown on the docket. The Gamecocks have the team stats one would expect a perfect record squad to have in the early going. They are batting .317 as a team while their stellar pitching staff boasts a 1.50 ERA and a miniscule opponent batting average of .208. INDIANAPOLIS – The field of 64 teams competing for the 2013 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship was announced today by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.

In an elimination game that would send one team packing and one team to the championship, top-seeded Vanderbilt defeated the reigning SEC Tournament champions of Mississippi State 16-8 in an offensive slugfest on Saturday afternoon.
There were 33 combined hits in the game with over twenty players total reaching base including Vanderbilt’s Zander Wiel, Conrad Gregor, Connor Harrell and Xavier Turner who all had three hits in the game in addition to Mississippi State’s Hunter Renfroe. Earlier in the SEC Tournament, the LSU Tigers fell to Arkansas 4-1. In the rematch between two of the top seeded teams in the tournament, the game was a different story as the Tigers defeated Arkansas 3-1.

The 6’4 Pennsylvania native came to Alabama with hopes of walking on the baseball team last year. That didn’t happen, however he did get himself on Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard’s radar.
Fortunately for Oczypok, that paid off when Gaspard heard of an opening on a summer league team in Illinois last summer. He passed along Oczypok’s name, and from there Oczypok’s dream of playing for the Crimson Tide that had seemed slightly out of reach after a year of not making the team started to slowly become a reality. In a rematch of a game that saw top-seeded Vanderbilt fall to nine-seeded Texas A&M earlier in the tournament, the Commodores defeated the Aggies 3-0 on Friday evening to eliminate Texas A&M from the tournament.
The Commodores’ performance in Friday night’s game made it evident as to why Vanderbilt is the unanimously top-ranked team in the country. Offensively, the Commodores were able to put up fourteen hits, defensively they did not have a single error, and on the mound Vanderbilt’s Tyler Beede pitched a two-hit gem to lead the team to victory. The LSU Tigers sent the Alabama Crimson Tide packing with a 3-2 victory in Friday’s elimination game. However, Alabama, who suffered both losses of the tournament to LSU, actually lead for the majority of the game. The reigning SEC Tournament Champion Mississippi State Bulldogs are making another run at it. The Bulldogs secured themselves a spot in one of Saturday’s games with a 6-4 win over Texas A&M. Mississippi State is 3-0 so far in the 2013 SEC Tournament having already beaten Missouri, South Carolina and now Texas A&M.
