2014 Lafayette Regional: Day 3 Recap

Louisiana-Lafayette 11 Jackson State 1

LAFAYETTE, La. – Junior Jace Conrad had a career-best six RBI as the top-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team defeated Jackson State 11-1 on Sunday afternoon to advance to the Lafayette Regional championship game at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.

The Cajuns (55-8) will face Mississippi State in the championship game at 8 p.m. Louisiana needs to defeat the Bulldogs twice to advance to the Super Regionals, while Mississippi State needs to win just one game.

2014 Oxford Regional Preview

Ole Miss 41-18

After being picked 6th in the SEC West in pre-season polls, the Rebels exceeded all expectations, winning the division with a 19-11 record and being in the discussion of a national seed. Their hopes of being one of the top eight fell short, but Ole Miss is hosting a regional and have a team that’s very reliable on both sides of the ball. Despite a very strong pitching staff featuring Chris Ellis (2.17 ERA) and Christian Trent (2.44 ERA) who combined to go 15-1 on the season, what the Rebels do offensively is what is so impressive. 2014 Baton Rouge Regional Preview

The Tigers enter the NCAA tournament playing their best baseball of the season to date, winners of eight straight and coming off an SEC tournament championship. Originally thought to be a fringe host entering tournament play in Hoover, LSU won all four games, outscoring opponents 31-4 en route to an SEC tournament championship and were rewarded with the #8 national seed. Florida Claims Outright SEC Title

Florida secured the outright SEC Championship and clinched its weekend series with a 4-2 win over Tennessee on Friday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Holding a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning, the No. 13 Gators (37-18/21-8 SEC) received a two-run, pinch-hit single by junior Josh Tobias with the bases loaded and two down for some breathing room. Continue reading

South Carolina Rallies For Win

NASHVILLE, TENN. – A two-out single by Max Schrock in the top of the ninth inning and a one-out solo homer by Joey Pankake in the top of the 10th helped lift eighth ranked South Carolina to a 4-3 come-from-behind win over ninth ranked Vanderbilt on Thursday evening in the first game of a three-game SEC baseball series at Hawkins Field. The Gamecocks improve to 41-13, 17-11 in the SEC with Vanderbilt now 39-15 and 16-12 in league play. Continue reading
